About the Role
We're looking for a Business Development Manager who is entrepreneurial, relationship-driven and excited about creating new business opportunities for a growing technology company in the food space.
This is not a role focused on managing inbound leads. We already have a team handling those opportunities.
Your focus will be on creating opportunities that aren't already coming to us.
You'll identify and develop relationships with enterprise organizations, strategic partners, industry associations and other organizations that could become customers, partners or open new channels for our technology.
We're looking for someone who knows how to open doors, start conversations and build relationships that turn into real business opportunities.
You'll work directly with company leadership and have considerable freedom to identify where we should be, who we should know and which opportunities we should pursue.
What You'll Do
- Identify and pursue new enterprise business opportunities
- Build and manage a targeted enterprise prospecting strategy
- Research organizations and identify the right decision-makers and stakeholders
- Develop thoughtful, personalized outreach to strategic accounts
- Build relationships with executives and enterprise buyers
- Identify and develop strategic partnerships
- Build relationships with industry associations, and complementary organizations
- Explore referral, channel, integration and co-selling opportunities
- Attend conferences, trade shows, networking events and industry gatherings
- Proactively arrange meetings with target companies before and during industry events
- Represent the company within relevant business and industry communities
- Conduct discovery conversations with enterprise prospects
- Understand business challenges and identify where our technology can provide value
- Work with leadership and product teams on complex enterprise opportunities
- Help develop proposals, presentations and business cases
- Maintain an active pipeline of enterprise and strategic opportunities
- Manage follow-up and relationship development over longer enterprise sales cycles
- Keep CRM activity, opportunities and next steps current
- Work closely with marketing on account-based campaigns, events and strategic outreach
- Bring forward new markets, partnerships and business development ideas
You Should Have Experience With
- B2B business development, sales or strategic partnerships
- Prospecting and opening new accounts
- Building relationships with senior decision-makers
- Enterprise or complex B2B sales
- Developing opportunities from outbound activity
- Running discovery conversations
- CRM and pipeline management
- LinkedIn and modern prospecting tools
- Networking and relationship development
- Attending and generating business from industry events
Experience selling B2B SaaS, technology or software solutions is strongly preferred. Experience with enterprise accounts, partnerships, channel development, foodservice, hospitality, restaurants, or food technology would be an asset.
The Person We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is proactive, curious, confident and persistent.
You're someone who doesn't wait for leads to appear in your inbox.
You see a company we'd like to work with and think: “How do I get us in the room?”
You enjoy meeting people and building relationships.
You're comfortable reaching out to someone you've never met.
You can walk into an industry event and start conversations.
You're willing to research an organization before contacting them rather than sending generic sales messages.
You understand that enterprise business development takes persistence and that a relationship started today may become an opportunity months from now.
You're organized enough to manage those relationships without letting opportunities disappear.
And you're always looking for connections:
Who should we know? Where should we be? Who could we partner with? What market haven't we considered? What prospect are we missing?
How We'll Measure Success
Success isn't simply the number of emails sent or calls made.
We'll look at the business you're helping create, including:
- Qualified enterprise opportunities generated
- Strategic meetings secured
- Enterprise pipeline created
- Partnerships developed
- New channels and referral relationships established
- Progression of opportunities through the sales cycle
- Revenue generated from business development activities
- Quality and value of the relationships being built
Why Join Us? You'll have the opportunity to do more than sell an established script.
You'll work directly with company leadership and help determine where we go next.
You'll have the freedom to identify new accounts, industries, partnerships and opportunities and then pursue them.
If you see an organization we should be talking to, we want you to go after it.
If you discover an industry event where we should have a presence, tell us.
If you identify a partnership that could open an entirely new channel, build the relationship.
We're looking for someone who wants to create opportunities, build relationships and have a direct impact on the growth of the business.
Pay: $65,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
