We are looking for a Junior to Intermediate Embedded Firmware Engineer who is hands-on, fast-moving, curious, and eager to learn.

We care less about the number of years you have worked and more about your ability to understand problems, learn quickly, use modern development tools effectively, and deliver working solutions.

The Role

You will help develop, test, troubleshoot, and improve the firmware used across PigRun's current and next-generation products.

You will work with embedded systems that interface with magnetic sensors, geophones, accelerometers, GPS receivers, cellular and satellite modules, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, displays, SD cards, and other peripherals.

This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with experienced team members while gradually taking ownership of increasingly complex firmware projects.

You will be expected to experiment, troubleshoot, research solutions, and make effective use of modern AI-assisted development tools to accelerate your work while still understanding and validating the code you produce.

Responsibilities

- Develop, test, debug, and maintain embedded firmware using C and C++.
- Work with STM32, Nordic, and similar ARM-based microcontroller platforms.
- Develop and integrate device drivers for sensors, communication modules, displays, storage devices, and other peripherals.
- Support development of data-acquisition and sensor-sampling systems.
- Work with communication interfaces including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular, satellite, USB, UART, SPI, and I²C.
- Develop features for device configuration, diagnostics, monitoring, and firmware updates.
- Implement and troubleshoot SD-card data logging, file management, buffering, and data-recovery systems.
- Help optimize firmware for low-power operation and battery-powered products.
- Investigate communication failures, memory issues, timing problems, sensor noise, and other firmware issues.
- Support real-time data streaming and remote monitoring features.
- Test firmware under unexpected shutdowns, poor connectivity, low-battery conditions, and other real-world scenarios.
- Develop engineering utilities, test tools, scripts, and production test firmware.
- Participate in code reviews, firmware architecture discussions, documentation, and product releases.
- Work closely with hardware, software, mechanical, production, and field teams.




- Assist with laboratory and field testing of products.
- Investigate issues found during real customer deployments.
- Use AI-assisted development tools effectively for coding, debugging, research, documentation, and problem solving while independently validating the results.

What You Should Have
- Degree, diploma, or equivalent hands-on experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or a related field.
- Experience programming in C or C++ through professional work, internships, university projects, personal projects, or open-source development.
- Understanding of embedded systems and microcontrollers.
- Exposure to STM32, Nordic, ESP32, or comparable ARM-based microcontrollers.
- Familiarity with common embedded interfaces such as UART, SPI, I²C, USB, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi.
- Basic understanding of interrupts, timers, memory, and real-time embedded systems.
- Ability to read technical documentation and datasheets.
- Basic ability to read schematics and work with hardware engineers.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly.
- Willingness to take ownership of problems and work through them until they are resolved.
- Clear communication and willingness to document your work.

AI-Assisted Development We actively use modern AI development tools as part of our engineering workflow.

We are particularly interested in candidates who are comfortable using tools such as AI coding assistants, agents, or similar technologies to:

- Understand unfamiliar codebases.
- Research hardware and software problems.
- Generate and improve code.
- Debug firmware.
- Create tests and engineering tools.
- Review documentation and datasheets.
- Accelerate repetitive development work.

You do not need to be an AI expert, but you should be comfortable learning and using these tools. Most importantly, you must be able to understand, test, and validate the solutions produced rather than simply accepting generated code.

Nice-to-Have Experience

You do not need to have experience with everything below. Experience in any of these areas is considered an asset:

- FreeRTOS or another real-time operating system.
- Digital signal processing.
- Sensor filtering, FFTs, spectral analysis, noise reduction, or event detection.
- Magnetic sensors, geophones, accelerometers, or industrial sensors.
- Cellular IoT technologies such as LTE-M, NB-IoT, or CAT-1.




- Satellite communication modules.
- GPS, GNSS, PPS timing, and real-time clocks.
- Embedded displays or graphical user interfaces.
- Bootloaders and over-the-air firmware updates.
- SD cards, FAT file systems, or high-volume data logging.
- Python or other scripting languages.
- Automated hardware or firmware testing.
- Battery-powered or low-power electronics.
- Oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, and hardware programmers.
- Industrial, automotive, aerospace, medical, robotics, or oil and gas products.
