Wage: $30.00 per hour

Term: September 2026 – June 2027

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Eugene Joseph Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and community-minded Land-Based Learning Coordinator to support our Land-Based Learning Program.

The program provides students with regular opportunities to learn through meaningful experiences on the land while strengthening their connection to Dakelh culture, language, traditional knowledge, community, and the natural environment.

Students will participate in hands-on, seasonal activities with the guidance of staff, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, educators, and community members. The program is designed to support student wellness, confidence, resilience, communication, leadership, and engagement in learning.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children, being outdoors, and sharing knowledge and experiences connected to the land.

The successful candidate will work as part of a two-person team supporting a small cohort of students. The program model provides students with a dedicated staff member to support individualized attention and safe participation on the land.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Land-Based Learning Coordinator will:

- Support daily and weekly land-based learning activities.
- Work alongside Elders and Knowledge Keepers to support cultural teachings.
- Support seasonal activities such as:
- Plant identification and harvesting
- Berry picking
- Traditional food preparation




- Fishing and fish processing
- Wildlife observation and tracking
- Traditional games and outdoor recreation
- Cultural storytelling
- Traditional outdoor skills
- Wildlife habitat projects
- Support students in developing outdoor and leadership skills.
- Encourage positive relationships, teamwork, confidence, and responsibility.
- Provide individualized support to students based on their strengths and needs.
- Encourage communication, storytelling, observation, reflection, and literacy through hands-on learning.
- Support students' emotional, physical, and social well-being.
- Promote respect for the land, animals, water, plants, Elders, and community.
- Assist with program planning, preparation, transportation, equipment, and supplies.
- Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Follow all safety, emergency, supervision, and school procedures.
- Monitor and report safety concerns, incidents, injuries, or hazards.
- Track student participation and assist with program documentation and evaluation.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, school staff, families, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

- Experience working with children and/or youth.
- Ability to work outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.




- Ability to build positive and respectful relationships with students.
- Strong commitment to student safety and well-being.
- Ability to follow direction and program procedures.
- Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
- Successful Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check as required.
- Ability to participate in physically active outdoor activities.

Assets Preference may be given to applicants with:

- Knowledge of Dakelh culture, language, traditions, and land-based practices.
- Experience working with Elders and Knowledge Keepers.
- Knowledge of local plants, animals, waterways, trails, and seasonal activities.
- Experience with harvesting, fishing, traditional food preparation, wildlife tracking, or other land-based practices.
- Experience working with Indigenous children, youth, families, or communities.
- Experience supporting children with diverse learning needs.
- Outdoor leadership or wilderness training.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Valid driver's licence and experience with protected transportation.
