The role is positioned within NEPI’s Fabrication Engineering function, which supports nuclear manufacturing by converting customer and design-authority inputs into executable fabrication packages.
The Fabrication Engineering delivers the following: GA’s and detailed fabrication drawing packages Material BOMs (c/w material specifications; piece-part processing details; DXFs) Fabrication Sequence; HLoA Master Production Orders (c/w ERP BOMs and routings) QC Inspection Sheets (design and in-process parameters) Equipment and Tooling selection Equipment design as a part of NEPI’s capital/operations projects 3.Key Accountabilities
- Review & understanding of client Design Specifications (DS) and Fabrication Specifications (FS)
Resolve design ambiguities and manufacturability constraints early in the project lifecycle; resolve real-time fabrication challenges 2. Fabrication Drawing Packages
Adhere to NEPI’s drafting standards; review and release fabrication drawings in accordance with NEPI’s QPM and document control procedures Responsible for Engineering accuracy and production readiness of fabrication packages 3. Material BOMs
Develop and maintain accurate Material BOMs, ensuring alignment with drawings and project requirements. Work closely with Procurement to support material sourcing activities and maintain a strong understanding of NEPI’s approved vendor network, supplier capabilities, and raw material supply chain 4. Manufacturability Reviews
Actively participate in design reviews for recent product developments, providing manufacturing-focused input, identifying potential fabrication challenges, and recommending practical design alternatives that improve manufacturability, quality, cost, safety, and production efficiency 5. Manufacturing Sequence
Develop practical manufacturing routings and operation sequences in collaboration with the Production team; ensure that fabrication activities are logically planned,
executable, and correctly reflected within production orders 6. Fixture/Jig
Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and repeatability by proactively collaborating with Production personnel to assess fabrication challenges Design and implement practical jigs, fixtures, and tooling solutions 4.Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree (or College Diploma) in Mechanical Engineering — required 7+ years of engineering experience; mechanical CAD/drafting to practical manufacturing experience preferably in a heavy fabrication environment C.E.T. or EIT (PEO) designation —
preferred CAD and drafting skills required: SolidWorks/PDM Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Inspection (DFI) principles Knowledge of manufacturing processes, i.e., welding, machining, coating, assembly and forming
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience (SolidWorks Simulation) is preferred SolidWorks Inspection experience is considered an asset Interpretation of GD&T; and welding symbols Experience creating and maintaining multi-level BOMs, routings, and production orders within an ERP system
Ability to evaluate manufacturing capabilities and select appropriate fabrication methods based on cost, schedule, quality, and safety considerations Experience performing tolerance stack-up studies, fit-up evaluations, and assembly interference assessments. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; ERP management experience
Familiarity with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code requirements, including Sections II, III, VIII, CSA N285, CSA N299, B51, and other applicable nuclear and fabrication standards is considered an asset Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Ability to work in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment Maintain a strong safety culture and enforce adherence to workplace health and safety regulations
