Our Client is a rapidly growing, Canada-based InsurTech company that is redefining the commercial insurance landscape for Canadian businesses . They are seeking Team Lead, Software Development to join their team.

The Role

Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, you will balance technical leadership with team mentorship. You will guide your team through complex technical challenges, review code, and collaborate with Engineering Management on best practices, goal-setting, and cross-functional strategy.

Core Responsibilities

- Leadership & Mentorship: Coach and mentor direct reports to foster a self-organizing, cross-functional team. Identify areas for growth and measure progress.
- Engineering Strategy: Discuss technical strategy, outline the trade-offs of potential software solutions, and bring the technical expertise needed to guide the team through complex challenges.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product Managers and stakeholders to ensure business requirements are clearly understood and broken down into actionable, estimable tasks.
- System Design & Architecture: Collaborate with the development team to design and build scalable, user-friendly systems and in-house tooling.
- Process & Delivery: Understand and optimize workflows necessary to implement, test, deploy, monitor, and release features. Define monitoring strategies and contingency plans for areas relying on third-party vendors.
- Goal Setting: Develop and monitor team goals (OKRs, SMART goals) and performance metrics.
- Administrative Oversight: Perform necessary administrative functions including reviewing/writing reports, managing performance reviews,



and approving expenditures.

Qualifications

Must Haves:

- Experience: 7+ years of work experience in software engineering or development, with a university degree or college diploma in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Leadership: 2+ years of experience managing other developers on a product team, including conducting performance management, coaching, delegating work, and giving constructive feedback.
- Core Stack: 5-8 years of extensive experience in the JavaScript ecosystem, specifically with Node.js and TypeScript.
- Technical Breadth: Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, AWS, Microservices, Micro-Frontends, Queues, Caches, REST APIs, gRPC, and WebSockets.
- Mindset: A strong passion for clean, reusable, well-structured code, and the ability to make decisions and drive results in ambiguous situations.

Nice-to-Haves:

- A conceptual understanding of Infrastructure as Code, containerization (Kubernetes), monitoring, and alerting.
- Experience with frameworks and tooling such as NestJS, React, Jest, NX, and WebPack.
- Familiarity with dynamic rendering engines and data-backed A/B testing.

Important Details

- Compensation: $140,000 - $170,000 / Year.
- Work Model: Remote within Canada.
- Locations: Canada
