We’re looking for a curious, creative Web Journalist Intern who enjoys writing, discovering stories and keeping up with what’s happening across Canada.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You’ll work with our editorial team to research, pitch and write stories for Northly’s website, covering everything from restaurant openings and local events to community news, lifestyle and trending topics.

You’ll also help create newsletters, including Toronto Got Deals, finding noteworthy deals, experiences and recommendations to share with readers.

This is an prospect to build your writing portfolio, gain practical publishing experience and develop your skills with editorial guidance.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

- Pitch and write timely articles, city guides, roundups and local features.
- Research stories and verify facts, sources, dates and details.
- Write engaging headlines and introductions that accurately reflect each story.
- Help curate and write newsletters featuring deals, events and local recommendations.
- Prepare articles for publication, including formatting, links, images and credits.




- Collaborate with the editorial team, incorporate feedback and meet agreed deadlines.
- Stay on top of emerging stories and conversations relevant to our readers.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

- An interest in journalism, writing, digital media or communications.
- Strong written English and attention to detail.
- Curiosity about Canadian cities, culture, food, entertainment and local news.
- Good research, communication and organizational skills.
- Someone comfortable working remotely, taking initiative and learning through feedback.

No professional journalism experience is required. Experience with a school publication, personal blog, newsletter or class project is welcome. Familiarity with website publishing tools or SEO is a bonus.
