About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Environmental Planner with experience in Alberta municipal environmental policy and master planning.

The successful candidate will bring robust knowledge of rural and peri-urban land use, development, agriculture, conservation, and environmental stewardship, with the ability to integrate complex environmental and multidisciplinary information into practical municipal policies, strategies, and recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and support the development of municipal Environmental Master Plans, policies, strategies, and implementation frameworks.
- Review and integrate environmental objectives with relevant municipal planning documents, including:
- Municipal Development Plans and Land Use Bylaws;
- Aggregate Resource Plans;
- Parks and Open Spaces and Recreation Master Plans;
- Agriculture Master Plans;
- community and area-specific revitalization plans;
- applicable master drainage plans; and
- Area Structure Plans, Conceptual Schemes, Master Site Development Plans, and Direct Control Bylaws.
- Provide senior technical expertise in watersheds, wetlands, riparian systems, biodiversity, ecological connectivity, conservation, and climate adaptation.
- Incorporate natural asset management and ecosystem-service considerations into municipal planning and decision-making.
- Use GIS,



spatial analysis, environmental data, and mapping to identify environmental constraints, opportunities, and priority areas.
- Coordinate and integrate findings from multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Translate complex technical information into clear, practical options and recommendations for municipal decision-makers.
- Prepare plain-language reports, maps, presentations, and other materials for municipal leadership, stakeholders, and the public.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

- A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Ecology, Biology, Geography, Natural Resource Management, Planning, or a related discipline.
- Significant senior-level experience in environmental planning, municipal planning, environmental assessment, or natural resource management.
- Demonstrated municipal environmental policy and master-planning experience in Alberta.
- Strong knowledge of rural and peri-urban land use, agriculture, development, conservation, and stewardship.
- Technical knowledge of watersheds, wetlands, riparian systems, biodiversity, ecological connectivity, and climate adaptation.
- Experience with natural asset management and ecosystem-service assessment.
- Experience with GIS, spatial analysis, data management, and map production.
- Solid technical writing, visual communication, and executive presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate multidisciplinary findings into practical municipal options and recommendations.
- A relevant professional designation is considered an asset.
