What's the role

The Shell Scotford Upgrader team is seeking a three (3) Process Operator (also known internally as Production Team Member) to join our team. As a Production Team Member, you will play a key role in the safe and efficient daily operation of our assets.

You will work with in a supportive environment that encourages both personal and professional growth, with opportunities to develop your skills and contribute to some of the most innovative projects in the industry.

The Shell Scotford Complex is a short drive from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, and consists of a bitumen upgrader, oil refinery, chemicals plant, and a carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility. It is one of North America's most productive, modern, and integrated hydrocarbons processing sites, converting oil sands bitumen into finished, marketable products.

Accountabilities

Ensure daily plant operations are carried out safely and in full compliance with all safety and environmental regulations.

Carry out routine plant rounds and required HSSE and Process Safety checks to assess equipment status and maintain protected, compliant operations.

Monitor unit operations and troubleshoot process issues to maintain reliable performance.

Conduct sampling and testing activities as required by the unit.

Execute shift objectives and tasks to support production and budget targets.

Make sound operational decisions in line with Safe Work Practices, policies, and safe operating procedures.

Actively participate in team meetings, safety meetings, inspections, and high‐potential pre‐job safety reviews (Critical Task Analysis).

Issue permits in your area in accordance with standards, policies, and protected‐work requirements.

Collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering teams to support maintenance activities.

Safely isolate equipment as required to support repair and maintenance activities.

Create clear, accurate work orders to support maintenance execution.

Perform housekeeping activities to maintain a clean and safe work environment across process areas and control rooms.

Identify opportunities for optimization and continuous improvement within your area.

Adhere to all Respectful Workplace policies.

What you bring

Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full time basis for anyone other than current employer

Must possess a high school diploma

Must possess a valid driver's license

Must have a minimum of a 3rd Class Steam Ticket.



Will consider a 4th Class Steam Ticket if the candidate can demonstrate progress toward a 3rd Class ticket and possesses production and maintenance experience

At least 3 years' relevant experience is preferred

Candidates with second skilling such as previous maintenance experience or trade tickets are preferred

Using safe lifting techniques, able to lift and carry 20 kg from ground to waist level

Ability to work safely wearing a respirator or Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)

Must be willing to participate in an emergency response team including Fire Fighting Training

Willing to comply with Shell's drug-free and harassment-free work environment and comply with all safety policies and procedures

Have good mechanical aptitude and equipment troubleshooting abilities

Must be willing to work overtime shifts, willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as per the rotating sift schedule

Must be willing to work outdoors in inclement weather

Ability to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and in confined spaces

A condition of employment for this position is successful completion of a pre-placement medical assessment of your fitness for duty, background check, and Pre-Site Access testing for alcohol and specified controlled substances. The Production Team Member job is designated as a Safety Sensitive Position.
