You start at $35–$40 an hour depending on your period, among the strongest apprentice rates advertised in Grande Prairie, and your wage steps up as you advance. You work out of our shop, in town; no camp, no rotation. We take over your sponsorship with Skilled Trades Alberta, cover your remaining technical training (completed within Alberta), and put you under Red Seal journeypersons until you're one yourself.

Fire Ridge Transport Ltd. is an oilfield transport and services company based in Grande Prairie. We move equipment and materials across Western Canada, and our fleet only earns when it's rolling, so the shop that keeps it rolling matters as much as the trucks themselves. Why this beats camp work

Plenty of jobs in the Peace Region pay a tradesperson well and cost them their life outside work to do it. This one doesn't. It's shop-based work in Grande Prairie: no camp, no rotation. When a truck breaks down on site you may head out on a local field call, because that's the trade; but you're finishing your ticket in town, not living it away from home.

What the rest of your apprenticeship looks like





Truck & Transport Mechanic is a three-period Red Seal trade under Alberta's apprenticeship system: 1,500 on-the-job hours plus a block of technical training per period. You're already partway through it. Here's our end of the rest:

- We take over as your sponsor and carry you through your remaining periods
- Your wage rises at each period as you bank hours and pass your training
- We reimburse your tuition and technical training costs
- You get an annual tool and boot allowance, so topping up your kit doesn't come out of your paycheques
- You work under Red Seal journeypersons the whole way: real mentorship, not sink-or-swim

And at the end of it: journeyperson certification with Red Seal endorsement, a ticket recognised across Canada, journeyperson pay to match, and a shop that already knows your work.

What you'll be doing

Real work from week one, at the level your hours have earned:

- Preventive maintenance and servicing across the fleet
- Brake and air system diagnosis and repair
- Supporting CVIP inspections alongside a licensed technician, building toward authorisation in your own name
- Drivetrain, suspension, electrical, and hydraulic work, with independence matched to demonstrated competence
- Tire and wheel service, lubrication and fluid services




- Local field service calls when a unit is down on site
- Keeping the shop clean, safe, and organised
- Logging your apprenticeship hours accurately; they're your ticket, treat them that way

What we need from you

- Current registration as an apprentice in the Heavy Equipment Technician (Truck and Transport Mechanic) trade with Skilled Trades Alberta, with your first period (at minimum) complete: hours banked and technical training passed
- Your apprentice record, so we can verify your period and transfer sponsorship
- A valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada
- Real shop time on trucks, trailers, or heavy equipment, and the work ethic to match
- Screening against public sources is part of the application process; by applying, you consent to us reviewing publicly available information as part of assessing your application.

Assets, worth telling us about:

- CVIP inspection exposure
- An Air Brake (Q) endorsement, or a Class 1 or 3 licence
- Safety tickets (H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, etc.); please list any you hold in your resume
- A farming or agricultural background: fixing your own equipment builds exactly the instinct this shop runs on

None of the assets are required. What we can't teach is attitude and reliability; what we won't need to teach you is which end of a wrench to hold. Pay: $35.00-$40.00 per hour
