Accountant – Finance Operations & Automation

Salary: $70,000–$120,000 per year

Work Arrangement: 100% In-Office

Are you an Accountant who wants to do more than prepare journal entries and reconcile accounts? We are looking for an Accountant – Finance Operations & Automation to join a growing, rapid-paced organization in Cambridge. This is an opportunity for someone who wants broader responsibility across accounting, financial operations, reporting, process improvement, systems, and automation.

You’ll work closely with the Controller and play an important role in improving how finance operates — strengthening controls, reducing manual work, solving recurring accounting problems, and helping the team work more efficiently.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

- Own assigned month-end and year-end close activities, journal entries, and financial-statement schedules.
- Prepare and review balance-sheet reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, loan accounting and cash-related accounts.
- Investigate unusual balances, discrepancies, variances, and recurring accounting issues and identify the root cause.
- Review and coordinate accounting work completed by other team members, including deadlines and outstanding items.
- Prepare management reports, variance analysis and clear explanations of financial results.
- Support payments, cash management, audits, tax, budgeting and forecasting.
- Identify opportunities to eliminate repetitive manual work and improve accounting processes.
- Use advanced Excel, AI tools and practical automation to improve accuracy, efficiency and reporting.
- Help develop better procedures, documentation, controls and exception reporting.
- Participate in finance, systems and cross-functional business improvement projects.
- Take ownership of issues from identification through resolution rather than simply escalating problems.

What We’re Looking For

- 3+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
- CPA designation, successful CFE completion, or credible progress toward CPA.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Financial statements
- Journal entries
- Account reconciliations
- Accruals and prepaids
- Month-end close
- Variance analysis
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with large or imperfect datasets.
- Experience reviewing, coordinating or improving the work of others.
- An analytical mindset with the ability to investigate why something doesn't make sense, rather than simply correcting the number.
- Practical experience using AI, automation, or technology to improve finance processes.
- Strong attention to detail and qualified judgment.
- Ability to communicate accounting issues clearly to both accounting and non-accounting stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where processes are continuously being improved.
- Ability to work full-time, in person in Cambridge, Ontario.
