Position Summary:

The accountant is responsible for the company's full-cycle accounting, month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, and inventory/manufacturing accounting.

The role works closely with management and operational teams to provide reliable financial information, resolve accounting issues, and improve accounting processes and controls.

Key Responsibilities:

Full-Cycle Accounting

- Manage AP, AR, general ledger, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Own month-end and year-end close, including accruals, prepaids, adjusting entries, and supporting schedules.
- Prepare financial statements and management reports. Review accounting records and investigate unusual or significant transactions.
- Prepare and file HST/GST returns.
- Prepare T4 information and assist with payroll tax compliance.
- Maintain fixed asset records and calculate depreciation.
- Coordinate year-end requirements and provide information to the external accountant for tax and CRA audits.

Inventory & Manufacturing

- Own inventory accounting for raw materials, packaging, finished goods, labour, and manufacturing overhead.
- Reconcile inventory balances and investigate discrepancies, adjustments, and write-offs.
- Maintain production cost records and analyze significant cost variances.
- Work with Operations, Purchasing, and Warehouse to resolve inventory and costing issues.

Analysis & Improvement

- Prepare and analyze budget, forecast, and prior-period variance information.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, tax efficiency, and cash flow.
- Support management with ad-hoc financial analysis and business reporting.
- Research and identify potential government funding, grants, credits, and tax-saving opportunities available to small businesses.

Qualifications & Experience:

- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or related fields.
- 3–5+ years of hands-on accounting experience.
- Strong full-cycle accounting and month-end close experience.
- Experience preparing financial statements and management reports.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online or a comparable accounting system.
- Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and pivot tables.
- Inventory or manufacturing accounting experience preferred. Food, pet food, CPG, or other manufacturing experience is an asset.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work independently and manage the day-to-day accounting function.
- CPA designation or progress toward CPA is an asset.

Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
