Woodlawn Memorial Park is a charitable organization that has proudly served the Guelph community since 1854, providing cemetery and memorialization services to families of all faiths.

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Accountant to join our team. This position offers 24–35 hours per week, with flexibility to tailor the schedule to the successful candidate's availability and organizational needs.

Position Summary

Reporting to the General Manager, the Accountant is responsible for the organization's day-to-day financial operations, financial reporting, payroll administration, budgeting, and regulatory compliance. The role carries significant responsibility for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and stewardship of the organization's financial resources. The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting skills, sound professional judgment, discretion, and a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage the organization's general accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and supporting reports.
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Coordinate with external auditors and prepare audit documentation.
- Process payroll and administer employee benefits and pension programs, including statutory remittances and recordkeeping.
- Administer prepaid trust and Care and Maintenance Fund records in accordance with applicable Ontario legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain effective accounting policies, procedures,



and internal controls.
- Ensure financial records and practices comply with accounting standards and legislation.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will have:

- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Several years of progressive accounting experience.
- CPA designation or progress toward designation is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience with fund accounting, payroll, benefits, and pension administration.
- Proficiency with Sage accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- A high degree of accuracy, discretion, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
- Experience in the charitable or not-for-profit sector is an asset.
- Experience with prepaid trust accounting, Care and Maintenance Funds, or cemetery/funeral/crematorium accounting is a strong asset. Training can be provided in these specialized regulatory requirements to an otherwise exceptional candidate.
