About Idea Lab Kids
Idea Lab Kids is a STEAM education company providing engaging, hands-on learning experiences for children through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. Our programs are designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, confidence and a love of learning.
We are looking for a passionate and experienced After-School STEAM Instructor to lead an off-site program at a school serving neurodivergent children. This is a unique opportunity for an instructor who understands the importance of creating a safe, supportive and engaging learning workplace for children with diverse learning needs.
About the Role The After-School Instructor will facilitate hands-on STEAM activities for a small group of neurodivergent students in an after-school setting. The successful candidate will be comfortable adapting activities and communication styles to meet individual needs and will bring patience, enthusiasm and a strong understanding of autism and neurodiversity.
You will be responsible for creating a positive environment where every child feels included, supported and successful.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead engaging, hands-on STEAM activities including science experiments, technology, engineering, robotics, coding, building and creative projects.
· Work directly with neurodivergent children, including children with autism.
· Adapt activities, instructions and teaching approaches to accommodate different abilities, sensory needs, communication styles and learning preferences.
· Create a structured, predictable and supportive classroom environment.
· Use positive reinforcement and strengths-based approaches to encourage participation and confidence.
· Support students who may experience sensory sensitivities, communication challenges, difficulty with transitions or emotional regulation.
· Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
· Follow school and Idea Lab Kids policies and procedures.
· Communicate professionally with school staff and the Idea Lab Kids team.
· Prepare, organize and clean up program materials before and after each session.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
· Previous experience working with neurodivergent children, particularly children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
· Demonstrated ability to adapt activities and teaching approaches to accommodate diverse learning and behavioural needs.
· Experience working with children in a classroom, camp, recreational, educational, therapeutic or similar setting.
· Excellent patience, communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to create a calm, positive and inclusive learning environment.
· Responsible, reliable and comfortable working independently.
· Passion for working with children and helping them develop confidence and new skills.
Preferred:
· Experience teaching or facilitating STEAM, STEM,
coding, robotics, science, technology or maker-based activities.
· Educational, Child & Youth Care, Behavioural Science, Psychology, Special Education, Social Work or related background.
· Experience using visual schedules, social stories, sensory supports or other strategies commonly used with neurodivergent learners.
· CPI, NVCI, ABA-related training or other relevant behavioural/special-needs training.
· First Aid/CPR certification.
· Vulnerable Sector Screening/Police Check.

Pay: $19.50-$22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 per week
