Kidtopia Children’s House is looking for an experienced, attentive, and positive Assistant Manager to join our team.
Our program is child-centred, child-led, and relationship-focused. We believe meaningful learning begins with strong connections among children, educators, families, and the environment. We are looking for someone who genuinely understands and respects children, values their ideas and capabilities, and is committed to supporting learning through observation, exploration, and responsive relationships.
The ideal candidate should be familiar with the Reggio Emilia approach and the BC Early Learning Framework and be willing to put these big ideas into daily practice. This person should also have solid communication, teamwork, leadership, staff-training, organizational, and computer skills, with the ability to support the centre’s overall daily operations.
Key Responsibilities

- Provide guidance, training, mentoring, and practical support to classroom educators
- Help ensure classrooms operate smoothly and maintain a high standard of care
- Build positive and respectful relationships with children, families, and team members
- Support staff communication, scheduling, classroom coverage, and problem-solving
- Observe classroom practices and provide constructive feedback and coaching
- Assist with emails, digital records, schedules, forms, documents, and other administrative tasks
- Use childcare management platforms and other digital tools for communication, record-keeping, and daily operations
- Help maintain compliance with licensing requirements, centre policies, and health and safety procedures
- Assist with organizing supplies and inventory
- Help with purchasing and picking up supplies when needed, if possible
- Step into classrooms and provide hands-on support when required
- Pay close attention to the needs of the entire centre and follow up on operational details
Qualifications and Skills
- At least 5 years of hands-on classroom experience in a licensed childcare setting
- Valid BC Early Childhood Educator Certificate
- Strong understanding of child development and respectful childcare practices
- Familiarity with the Reggio Emilia approach and the BC Early Learning Framework
- A strong belief in children as capable, curious, and active participants in their learning
- Commitment to child-centred, child-led, and relationship-focused practice
- Strong leadership, communication, teamwork, and conflict-resolution skills
- Experience mentoring or training educators
- Comfortable using email,
Microsoft Word or Google Docs, spreadsheets, digital forms, and childcare management platforms
- Able to learn and confidently use new programs and digital systems
- Attentive, responsible, organized, and dependable
- Positive, patient, reflective, and solution-focused
- Able to manage multiple responsibilities while noticing the overall needs of the centre
- Comfortable providing hands-on classroom support when needed
- Current First Aid Certificate and a clear criminal record check
- A valid driver’s licence and the ability to assist with purchasing would be an asset
This position is a great fit for an experienced educator who is ready to take on more leadership and operational responsibilities while continuing to stay connected to children and classroom practice. For the right candidate who successfully grows into this role, there may be an opportunity to advance into a Centre Manager position in the future.
