Fairway Market is a locally owned and operated grocery chain on Vancouver Island. Fairway Market’s has 9 grocery stores and has been serving Vancouver Island for over 60 years.

Position Summary - looking for part time & full time

We are looking for a focused and dynamic cake decorator & bakery clerk for our Nanaimo location. This person should be customer oriented and pro active with innovative & new ideas for the company.

Working as part of a team, the cake decorator & bakers is accountable for the completion of all the duties necessary to operate a Fairway Market store on a daily basis.

Basic Functions:

- Decorate cakes, cupcakes, cookies, squares
- Mix and bake ingredients to produce baked goods
- Temper chocolate, butter cream, fondant, whipping cream
- Support bakery department with production and packaging bakery goods.
- Maintaining retail floor inventory, keeping the shelf product fresh.
- Ordering, maintaining inventory and department. Keeping tight inventory orders and budget.
- Following company and government regulations and policies.

Essential Functions:

- Decorate and package cakes based off daily report.
- Coordinate with team to produce batters and dry mixes for daily production.
- Measure and mix ingredients following recipes.
- Handle ingredients, equipment, tools, and baking pans.
- Mix icings and other toppings.
- Use a variety of kitchen tools, including electric mixers, pans, depositors, and cutting tools.
- Complete decorating records.
- Assist with baking production and packaging of products produced by bakery.
- Prepare bakery items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.




- Offer product samples to help customers discover current items or products they inquire about.
- Prepping and packaging pre - made product
- Pricing and La belling with proper information
- Detailed oriented to detail and organization
- Inform customers of bakery specials.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Must be able to work independently and be able to work as a team.

Minimum Requirements:

Knowledge

- Knowledge of scaling, mixing, baking
- Able to use mixers, ovens, depositors and some other equipment.
- Knowledge of basic sanitation
- Working with sharp tool like knives and cutters.
- Shift availability must be versatile, early mornings, day & evening and includes weekends and holidays.

Skills/Aptitudes

- Comprehensive understanding of the English language.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and managers.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have a good eye for color and its combinations.

· Min 2 Years experience as a cake decorator. · Food Safe valid level 1

· General baker clerk, training provided but experience welcome.
