The Canadian Marine Careers Foundation (CMCF) is a national, not-for-profit organization that brings together public and private sector marine stakeholders to develop innovative solutions to build a diverse, inclusive and future-ready workforce for the Canadian marine sector. The CMCF raises awareness of marine careers and training pathways, develops resources and programs to help employers improve attraction, retention and inclusion; and provides access to decision-making labour market information and research. We connect marine employers, workers, students, labour and training organizations and other stakeholders to develop unified approaches to remove barriers and create opportunities for training and upskilling.

Candidate: Must be a Nova Scotia resident and be legally allowed to work in Canada. Fluently bilingual in English and French. Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.

Job Type: Full-time

Work Environment: Remote work, with travel within Atlantic Canada and occasionally other parts of Canada for meetings, site visits, and events.

Compensation : $54,000 - $62,000

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Communications and Engagement Specialist supports the planning, development, execution, and evaluation of communications, engagement, and outreach initiatives that advance the Canadian Marine Careers Foundation's (CMCF) mission and National Educational Outreach Strategy.

The role is responsible for creating and disseminating compelling digital, written, visual, and multimedia content for internal and external audiences across Canada. The Communications and Engagement Specialist will also lead outreach and engagement activities with students, educators, parents, industry partners, and stakeholders to increase awareness of marine career opportunities and strengthen participation in CMCF programs and initiatives.

The successful candidate will be a creative communicator with relationship-building skills, analytical capabilities, and a passion for youth engagement and workforce development.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Communications

- Develop, curate, and publish engaging content across social media channels, websites, newsletters, and digital platforms.
- Monitor social media and website performance and provide monthly analytics reports, insights, and recommendations to improve engagement and reach.
- Assist with website content management, updates, search engine optimization
- Develop and distribute video, graphic, written, and multimedia content that promotes marine career awareness and educational programming, working with external contractors as appropriate.
- Ensure all communications adhere to organizational, legal, regulatory, ethical, and accessibility standards.
- Contribute creative ideas and growth strategies to expand digital reach and audience engagement.

Educational Outreach and Engagement

- Support the execution of the Canadian Marine Careers Foundation's National Educational Outreach Strategy.
- Build and maintain relationships with educators, school boards, guidance counsellors, youth-serving organizations, industry representatives, and community partners.
- Coordinate and support outreach campaigns and programs that increase awareness of marine sector careers among youth, parents and educators.
- Promote marine career pathways through presentations, webinars, classroom engagement activities, career fairs, conferences, and other educational events.
- Assist in the development of the Imagine Marine Youth Advisory Council and related youth engagement initiatives.
- Track participation, engagement, and outreach outcomes, providing regular reporting and recommendations for continuous improvement.

Internal and External Communications

- Maintain and expand media, stakeholder, educator, and partner contact databases.




- Support the planning, coordination, logistics, promotion, and execution of CMCF stakeholder events and meetings.
- Support communications and engagement activities involving CMCF members and partners, including showcasing member initiatives through Imagine Marine platforms.

Qualifications

- Postsecondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Education, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in communications, public engagement, stakeholder relations, or educational outreach.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both English and French (mandatory).
- Experience managing social media platforms, websites, digital campaigns, and content development.
- Strong understanding of social media analytics, digital marketing, and audience engagement strategies.
- Experience coordinating events, webinars, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with diverse audiences, including students, educators, parents, industry partners, and community stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, social media management tools, content management systems, and analytics platforms.
- Graphic design, video production, and presentation development skills are considered assets.
- Knowledge of the marine sector, workforce development, or education sector is an asset.
