Job Summary
Qeen Biotechnologies is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Downstream Processing Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for executing downstream processing operations, including purification, filtration, and chromatography techniques to produce high-quality bacteriophage-based products. The ideal candidate will have a background in biotechnology or biochemistry and a strong passion for bioprocessing and quality control.
What You'll Do:
Key Responsibilities
- Perform tangential flow filtration (TFF), centrifugation, and chromatography techniques to purify bacteriophage products.
- Prepare and operate purification equipment, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct in-process testing to monitor purification progress and adjust parameters as needed.
- Set up and run chromatography columns (e.g., ion exchange, affinity, and size exclusion) to achieve high product purity.
- Analyze and interpret chromatograms to optimize purification yields and product quality.
- Perform cleaning and maintenance of chromatography systems to ensure consistent performance.
- Quality Control & Documentation:
- Collect and analyze samples throughout the downstream process to ensure products meet required specifications.
- Maintain accurate records, batch logs, and documentation in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving process deviations to optimize downstream operations.
- Equipment Maintenance & Compliance:
- Clean, sterilize, and prepare downstream processing equipment for production runs.
- Calibrate and maintain equipment to ensure compliance with GMP standards.
- Follow all safety protocols and biosafety procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Collaborate with the R&D; and quality assurance teams to enhance process efficiency and product yield.
- Participate in process optimization projects to reduce costs and improve scalability.
- Support the development and validation of new downstream processes.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related field.
- Experience: minimum 1-3 years of experience in downstream processing, biopharmaceutical production, or a related industry.
- Hands-on experience with chromatography systems, TFF, and filtration techniques is preferred.
- Strong understanding of downstream processing techniques and equipment.
- Proficient in data analysis, including interpreting chromatograms and quality control results.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex procedures.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records in accordance with GMP and data-integrity principles
- Complete logbooks, checklists, and electronic records (LIMS/eQMS) as required
- Participate in training, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives

Working conditions:
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 25 kg, stand for extended periods, and work in a laboratory setting.
- Schedule: Full-time, with very occasional evening or weekend shifts if required.
- Work Environment: Laboratory and production facility with exposure to biological materials and chemicals.

*This position is open to Canadian Citizens or Permanent residents only Pay: $48,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
