BMO Financial Group is seeking a full-time lawyer to join the legal team in Toronto as Senior Counsel responsible for providing legal support, with a focus on derivatives, to BMO Global Asset Management's manufacturing of retail and institutional investment products, including the BMO Mutual Funds, BMO Exchange Traded Funds, BMO AM Pooled Funds and alternative products.ResponsibilitiesAct as a subject matter expert on relevant laws, regulations and policies relating to listed and OTC derivatives, including options, forward contracts, futures, swaps and other derivatives instruments.Draft and negotiate derivatives documentation, including ISDAs, credit support annexes, account control agreements, broker agreements, onboarding documents and ancillary documentation.Provide derivatives transactional support, with a focus on equity and interest rate derivatives, including drafting and reviewing ISDA trade confirmations.Advise on a wide array of existing and new derivatives laws and regulatory initiatives, including trade reporting, margin requirements and compliance with National Instrument 81‐102 Investment Funds.Provide legal and regulatory advice on new and existing investment products, initiatives, strategies,



policies and developments.Identify risks and implement appropriate actions to mitigate them.Implement areas of improvement to ensure consistency with industry practice when dealing with counterparties.Build effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.Instruct and manage external legal counsel.Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.Key SkillsMake things happen with pace.Effect change.Tackle challenges outside of your historic expertise.Support our business as it evolves and pursues new opportunities.QualificationsMinimum requirements are a degree in law (LLB/JD) and license to practice law in Canada. 5+ years post Call to the Bar experience in private practice, in‐house experience or experience at a regulatory body. Knowledge of the business and regulatory setting in which BMO Financial Group operates.SkillsStrong judgment and analytical capability.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Excellent relationship management skills.Strong drafting and negotiation skills.Ability to work independently and in a team environment.Solution‐oriented with strong ability to make things happen with pace.CompensationSalary: $111,800.00 – $208,000.00. Pay Type: Salaried.
