JOB TITLE: Building Automation Systems Specialist

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Building Automation Systems Specialist position is responsible to provide project management, design, documentation, programming and commissioning for building automation systems throughout Saskatchewan. The incumbent is responsible for the development and support of these systems.

NATURE OF WORK: Reporting directly to the Building Automation Manager, this position is involved in all aspects of controls design and implementation. This includes the production of CAD design drawings; related controls software; commissioning and trouble shooting of electrical and mechanical control systems; providing technical support, direction and training to controls personnel. The incumbent provides project management of small to large scale controls projects, including cost and time estimates.

The successful applicant works effectively with a diverse team consisting of trades people, engineers, technologists, consultants and contractors.

The Building Automation Systems

Specialist must be able to work under pressure, in a timely manner in a technologically changing environment.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

- Design protected and reliable controls systems ensuring that the designs conform to Ion Electrical & Controls standards and sustainable controls strategies are in place for all controls projects.
- Effectively communicates design intent through Microsoft Visio CAD drawings and supplementary documentation to various stakeholders.
- Tracking and managing controls project scope, quality, and costs, implementing changes where required and ensuring communication is maintained with the appropriate stakeholders.
- Works collaboratively within a team coordinating commissioning efforts to ensure that the performance of systems are optimized.
- Creating and programming databases and graphical HMI for building automation systems ensuring design intent is adhered to and data is effectively communicated.




- Evaluation and selection of equipment to ensure cost effectiveness over the life cycle of the equipment.
- Assist various stakeholders to effectively troubleshoot controls problems and provide support and training to other controls personnel.
- Maintains current knowledge and understanding of building automation systems and relevant regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education: A technologist diploma from a recognized technical institution in one of the disciplines related to the Controls section would be considered an asset. Equivalent work experience would be acceptable.

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years experience in the building automation engineering field with preference for HVAC design/production experience and controls commissioning experience. Preference will be given for individuals with design/commissioning experience with Automated Logic Control Systems equipment. Knowledge of HVAC, boiler and chiller systems would be considered an asset.

Skills: Demonstrated superior written and verbal communication skills; fluency in electrical and mechanical systems and the ability to communicate complex technical information; effective analytical and problem-solving skills; creativity; an orientation to detail; a track record of taking initiative and working proactively and independently; a demonstrated ability to contribute effectively in a team environment; proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Visio; proven ability to remain reliable, tactful and diplomatic under pressure and to balance competing demands; and the ability to ensure that initiatives and/or projects are completed on-time and on-budget. Assets include written, oral and graphical communications experience relating to controls technology.

Pay: $30.00-$40.00 per hour
