Utility Maintenance Worker II (Ice Rinks)Requisition ID:46294Main Purpose and FunctionThe Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation is accepting applications from qualified individuals to be added to a pool of Utility Maintenance Worker II to join our auxiliary team. This role will provide qualified candidates an opportunity to work in and across a diverse portfolio of facilities and spaces in the City, including several 2010 Olympic venues. Candidates will be assessed on the basis of their skills, knowledge, and abilities, and may be selected for an interview should they meet the qualifications and requirements of the position and a vacant prospect exists.Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe Utility Maintenance Worker II is responsible for the operational, janitorial and minor maintenance work in the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation ice rink facilities, including the functions related to the operation and service of ice arena surfaces, refrigeration plants and related maintenance and equipment. The UMW II will also be responsible for performing and coordinating routine janitorial functions including cleaning change rooms and washrooms; washing and waxing floor; replenishing supplies; collecting and transferring refuse and other duties as required. The successful candidates must be prepared to work in various park and recreation locations within the organization. Candidates must have availability to meet a variety of shift requirements including morning, day, afternoon, night, and weekends.QualificationsEducation and Experience:Completion of a recognized certification program in Building Service Work supplemented by technical training related to the work plus sound related experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experienceTechnical Safety BC Ice Facility Operator Certificate or higher requiredA valid Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia requiredKnowledge,



Skills and Abilities:Strong knowledge of recreation facility maintenance and repairKnowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules and regulationsWorking knowledge of ice rink refrigeration systemsWorking knowledge of ice‑making methods and re‑surfacing equipmentWorking knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial and building maintenance workAbility to operate ice resurfacing equipment and any other tools or equipment related to the workAbility to prepare simple reportsAbility to deal courteously and effectively with the public groups and users of the facility to ensure observance of the rules and regulationsAbility to observe equipment in operation and report on any malfunctionsAbility to communicate effectively orally and in writingGood health and strength sufficient to perform a variety of manual tasks in janitorial and building maintenance workAbove average manual dexterity and mechanical aptitudeDrivers License and Record ChecksCopy of your five‑year ICBC Commercial Driver’s Abstract (N Print) directly from ICBC dated within 14 days of this postingCopy of your five‑year ICBC Driver’s Claims History directly from ICBC within 14 days of this postingIf you have less than five years driving experience in BC, a request must be made for out of province/country abstract and claims historyBusiness Unit/Department:Board of Parks and RecreationAffiliation:CUPE 15 ParksPosition Start Date:OngoingSalary Information:Pay Grade GR-015: $31.13 to $36.57 per hourAt the City of Vancouver, we are committed to recruiting a diverse workforce that represents the community we so proudly serve.
