Indspire is a national Indigenous charity that invests in the education of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students, empowering individuals, strengthening communities, and building a stronger country for all.Indspire is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to report directly to the President & CEO. This is a replacement role and a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight of the organization’s financial operations.The CFO leads financial planning and decision‑making, overseeing all strategic and operational financial matters, including budget management, accounting, cost‑benefit analysis, short‑ and long‑term forecasting, and the securing of new funding. The CFO is accountable for the overall integrity of the accounting function, provides expert financial counsel to the President & CEO and Board, and drives long‑term fiscal strategy to ensure the organization’s financial health, sustainability, and strong stewardship of its assets.Key ResponsibilitiesProviding leadership, direction and management to the Finance Team ensuring the effective implementation of all aspects of Indspire’s accounting and financial programs, including training and guidance.Establishing departmental goals, timelines, and deliverables in alignment with Indspire’s long‑term financial planning and strategic oversight.Providing leadership in the development of long‑term strategic financial objectives.Contributing to strategic planning and operational execution of the organization’s mission as part of the executive team.Overseeing all accounting and financially related activities: budget management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management and payroll.Providing strategic oversight and managing any financially related activities in compliance with GAAP, government regulations and the organization’s financial policies, procedures and guidelines.Monitoring the organization’s long‑term financial growth and recommending appropriate adjustments to policies, methods, accounting practices, processes and staffing.Reviewing and advising on proper documentation and recording of all contracts, agreements and commitments made by the Board, CEO, COO and department heads.Managing cash flow: planning, forecasting,



monitoring and reviewing operating revenues and expenditures to ensure financial stability.Providing required information, reports and assistance to the Finance and Risk and Investment Committees of the Board; supporting policydevelopment and working with investment advisors.Providing required information, reports and assistance to the Audit Committee; ensuring appropriate information on the annual audit and reviewing financial statements and controls.Providing quarterly and annual financial reports and year‑end projections to the Executive Committee of the Board.Reviewing and vouching for investment trust fund statements and reports as directed by the Finance and Risk, Audit and Investment Committees.Communicating with bankers and investment advisors on financial issues and arranging items such as banking services, lines of credit, asset investment, etc.Overseeing the preparation of RFPs and participating in the selection process.Establishing VISA accounts for staff, setting credit limits, approving expense reports and processing payments.Providing oversight on controls including building security, alarm codes and accounting codes.Preparing overall compensation analyses and budgeting projections.Collaborating with the President, CEO and COO on year‑end compensation and bonus payments.Acting as signing officer for contribution agreements, contracts, government funding agreements and reports, cheques and EFTs for scholarships and bursaries.Providing accounting services to various events.Budget Preparation, Financial Reporting and ForecastingPlanning, designing and preparing organizational budgets.Co‑ordinating departmental budgets and consolidating overall organization budget for approval.Maintaining accurate financial records including accounts receivable, payable and payroll integration into ledgers.Reviewing trial balances and financial statements.Preparing monthly, quarterly and annual summary reports for stakeholders.Directing research, design and preparation of financial policies,



procedures and systems.Reviewing and coordinating the preparation of the year‑end T3010 Registered Charity Information Return.Monitoring the master reporting schedule of all financial reporting requirements.Ensuring timely record keeping for revenues and scholarships.Overseeing implementation of finance related systems and software.Reviewing cash flow reports for all contribution agreements.Planning, designing and preparing tracking documents to project revenues by program.Developing timely availability of regular forecasts, budgets and management reports.Monitoring departmental budgets and reporting variances.Year‑End and Audit PreparationArranging audit planning, procedures, requirements, timeline and cost with auditors.Directing year‑end workflow and ensuring accounts are closed correctly.Preparing analysis on revenue and expense accounts with comparisons to budgets and prior year amounts.Providing information on contracts, investments and legal issues.Directing, monitoring and liaising with auditors to ensure complete reconciliations.Ensuring audited financial statements are received and published on time.Co‑operating with audits requested by government or funders.QualificationsUniversity graduation with specialist financial education and CPA designation.10–15 years of progressive finance and senior management experience.Experience leading and managing staff.Knowledge of Indigenous communities strongly preferred.Openness to learning and willingness to engage in cultural competency training.Knowledge of GAAP and not‑for‑profit accounting best practices.General knowledge of human resources management practices.Effective communication skills, both written and oral.Customer service orientation.Strategic thinking and problem‑solving skills.Collaborative working style.Confidentiality with sensitive information.Travel between Six Nations and Toronto offices required.Ability to work occasionally in the evening and on weekends.What We OfferCompetitive benefits and pension plan.Three weeks vacation with paid personal and sick days plus additional holiday closings.Supportive hybrid work environment (three days per week in office).Passionate, dedicated team culture.Opportunities for professional growth and cultural learning.Chance to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of Indigenous students.Indspire is committed to ensuring an equal chance and barrier‑free recruitment process.
