Harmony Hills Early Learning Academy & Youth Centre is seeking a caring, reliable, and experienced Cook to join our team in Newmarket, Ontario.

We are looking for someone who enjoys preparing fresh, nutritious, and child-friendly meals and understands the importance of providing healthy food in a childcare environment.

We are urgently hiring a cook for our centre.

Responsibilities

- Prepare and serve nutritious, well-balanced meals and snacks for the children.
- Follow our centre's menu and accommodate children's dietary restrictions and allergies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen.
- Follow proper food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures.
- Complete daily kitchen cleaning and sanitation duties.
- Maintain accurate food and kitchen supply inventories and communicate when supplies need to be ordered.
- Work cooperatively with the childcare team.
- Ensure meals and snacks are prepared and served according to the centre's schedule.
- Follow all applicable childcare licensing, health, and food-safety requirements.

Position Overview Qualifications include but are not limited to:

⦁ Legally able to work in Canada

⦁ Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices for food handling is essential

⦁ Health assessment and record of immunization, as outlined by legislation.

⦁ Experience in early learning education centre meal preparation is an asset

⦁ Proper food handling techniques and safety practices





⦁ Excellent communication skills to interact positively with children and staff members

⦁ Plan menus that accommodate children's nutritional needs, preferences, and any allergies or dietary restrictions

⦁ Able to cook a variety of dishes and baked goods, etc. according to Public Health and Ministry of Education guidelines

⦁ Monitor inventory levels of food supplies and report any shortages to management

⦁ Responsible for all kitchen documentation, policies and procedures

⦁ Ensure kitchen is always clean and safe environment includes cleaning and managing ingredients, etc.

⦁ Collaborate with child care staff to create a positive dining experience for children during meal times

⦁ Reporting Relationship- this position reports to the Director

⦁ Ability to use frequent light to medium physical effort: lifting up to 20 kg (44 lbs.), bending and stooping, pushing, carrying and pulling

⦁ Perform other duties as assigned

Experience:

- Cooking: 1 year + (preferred)

Language:

- English (preferred)

Licence/Certification or Requirements:

- Food Handler Certification (Required)
- WHMIS (Required)
- Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C Certificate (Required)
- Vulnerable Sector Check (Required/within 6 months)

Pay: From $18.50 per hour Expected hours: 25.0 – 35.0 per week
