Full Time – Monday to Friday The Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for providing safe, nutritious and appropriate food services to children and staff within our programs from infancy to age four. The position reports to the Centre Director and/or Program Supervisor and maintains positive, respectful working relationships with all staff and Community Partners working with the program.

The MZELC Nutrition Coordinator provides a morning snack, a lunch, and an afternoon snack to 125 children aged from infancy to 4 years.

× Nutrition Coordinator should be well versed in Canada’s Food Guide and menu expectations set out by the Ontario Dieticians in Public Health

× Understand the MZELC Curriculum and Policies, enabling them to provide support and assistance to the educators in the centre when needed.

× Maintain accurate records regarding daily/weekly/monthly checklists, daily log and menus. – maintain an updated and professional kitchen journal

× Meet the needs of each child’s diet due to health or religious restrictions.

× Introduce new foods; provide foods from other cultures and a variety in experiences and textures.

× Always liaise with parents/guardians and community contacts in a qualified manner.

× Continuous practice of clean culture, ensuring kitchen, Centre and classrooms are clean, organized and professional looking at all times.

× Implement and practice the Program Statement at MZELC.

× Utilize age appropriate child coaching and mentoring techniques in all interactions with the children

× Ensure the program policies and procedures, as well as the day to day operation, are in accordance with the regulations of the Child Care and Early Years Act. (2014)

× Ensure compliance with the policies and procedures including Health and Safety, Child Protection and Risk Management.





× Follow the Public Health and Fire Regulations/Requirements.

× Ability to create and evaluate menu quality as required.

× Dietary Planner will be required to lift up to 60 lbs. (children and/or activity equipment or room set up) at various times within a day. Medical clearance may be required to support this requirement.

× Valid Food Handlers Certificate

× Post secondary education, in food services is considered an asset

× Valid Standard First Aid certification including infant and child CPR issued by a training agency recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board

× Food Preparation experience required

× Experience in using cutting tools, cookware and bakeware

× Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)

× Ability to follow all sanitation procedures

× Ability to work in a team

× Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Position Screen is a condition of employment for all staff and volunteers.

× Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.

× Legally entitled to work in Canada

× Up-to-date immunizations required by Public Health and Ministry of Education

× Attendance and participation in staff meetings and training sessions.

× May be required to provide supervision and direction to students/volunteers placed within the centre and prepare the necessary monitoring reports.

× May be requested to provide input regarding kitchen and food supplies.

× Responsible for purchasing ie food ordering.

× Observes children for possible eating/nutrition concerns and discuss solutions or progress with director, parents/guardians and staff members.

× Participates in personal and professional development opportunities

Pay: From $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20.0 – 40.0 per week
