Position Purpose summary:

The Children’s Ministry Coordinator will provide oversight to all children’s outreach and programs at Korean Community Church. He/she will give focused attention to strengthening and growing the programs and attend to the spiritual growth and development of the children 0 to 14 in the church and community.

ACCOUNTABILITES

Spiritual Leadership

- Contribute to the spiritual development of children and their families within the church and community by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling Christ-like attitudes and behaviors.
- Pray with and lead children and family members to faith in Jesus Christ
- Follow up with children and parents/guardians on spiritual decisions made, building, and strengthening relationships, and guiding children in establishing active links with the church and its ministries.
- Demonstrate keen pastoral interest in community outreach. Build relationships with children and families that are connected to our Community Services etc. Encourage the volunteer team to do the same.
- Cultivate a “spiritual and relational leadership style” with children, their friends, and their families.
- Work as a key member with the church’s Pastoral Team providing pastoral care and oversight for children’s ministries.

Children Programing Oversight

- Coordinate and maintain and when necessary, reimage existing programing relevant to the children of the church and community at large, including worship, small groups, fellowship, discipleship, and regular special events.
- Oversee the development, organization, and mobilization of a comprehensive outreach ministry, provide regular programs and events that will connect children and families from our Community Services ministries.
- Develop and organize outreach to schools and neighborhood organizations.
- Promote, support, and participate in Divisional and Territorial Children’s events.
- Work cooperatively and consultatively with the Ministry Unit Leader to prepare and deliver children’s worship services and for children’s events.
- Attend Sunday worship services and participate fully as a part of the Korean Community Church congregation and understand that Sunday meeting attendance is an essential part of the ministry’s responsibility.

Volunteer Coordination & Leadership

- Recruit, supervise, orientate, support and train volunteer leaders for children discipleship programs, such as Bible studies, Children groups etc. in partnership with the Ministry Unit Leader and other Children leaders.
- Develop strategies and recommendations for volunteer development.
- Prepare, post,



and maintain all volunteer schedules for those supervised, in accordance with operational requirements, ensuring adequate coverage for all program functions.
- Ensure compliance with all screening processes for volunteers, including completion of police checks for volunteers, Statement of Applicant for Work with Children, Youth and Vulnerable Adults forms, and online abuse prevention training.
- Dealing with volunteer complaints and incident reports.
- Prepare, post, and maintain all volunteer schedules for those supervised in accordance with operational requirements ensuring adequate coverage for all program functions.

Administration:

- Prepare and maintain written records/logs of activities, including activity reports and statistical information.
- Assist in the maintenance of volunteer files and statistical records as directed.
- Design and draft promotional material that highlights various programs provided by the Korean Community Church subject to supervisory approval.
- May participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the Children Programs.

Communication:

- Communicate in an empathetic manner with volunteer team, congregants, families, and staff.
- Maintain frequent communication with children and families using various communication methods (in person, phone, email, social media, website, etc.)
- Demonstrate skill in social media applications (advertising, creating videos etc.)
- Able to embrace growing technology needs, post to social media platforms and develop cutting edge online communications.
- Inform the Ministry Unit Leader regarding any concerns or issues in a timely manner.

Health and Safety

- Maintain program storage areas (e.g., updating, safety, organizing, etc.).
- Seek out continual education in food safety and health standards, including maintaining Safe Food Handling Certification.
- Work in compliance with OH&S; Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Working Conditions:

- This is a regular part-time position 15 hours per week.
- Working environment is typically in the office and in the community in generally agreeable conditions.
- Ability to lift/move up to 40 lbs. without assistance.
- This job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently, working in a sitting, and standing position for periods of time.
- Required to handle garbage and perform clean up duties after events.
- Travel is associated with this position {15%}. i.e., on occasion pick-up supplies, attend community meetings.

Normal hours of work: The working conditions are such that in order to meet the operational needs of the job, flexibility in scheduling is required as it relates to hours of work and work schedule. Schedule will include evenings and weekends. Includes a ½-hour unpaid meal break where applicable.

Education,



Qualifications and Certifications:

- Completed a post-secondary certificate/ college diploma program in related field of study, Children/Children, or the completion of 2 or 3 post-secondary academic years.
- Bilingual in English and Korean.
- Ability and willingness to provide a valid Safe Food Handlers Certification and First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License; personal vehicle and insurance is required.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

- Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience working with Children and Children programming.

Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Skills and Capabilities:

- Exhibit good listening skills, have solid oral/written communication skills.
- Conflict management and resolution skills.
- Ability to communicate to, motivate, train, and empower Children and Children ministry volunteers.
- Willingness to become a member of Korean Community Church.
- Ability to create Easy Worship and other visual and multi-media presentations; learn, adapt, and utilize technology and processes quickly.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
- Attention to detail and high accuracy; problem solving and analytical skills.
- Represent The Salvation Army in a professional, positive, and engaging manner.
- Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement.
- Self-directed with superior organizational skills, attention to detail, time management skills, ability to prioritize and effectively handle multiple priorities/tasks; the ability to complete assignments and meet competing deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Ability to clearly and concisely compose/proofread/edit documents such as letters, memos, advertisements, publications and e-mail.
- Ability to learn, adapt, and utilize technology and processes quickly.
- Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member.
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
- Work in compliance with OH&S; Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Understand, support; committed to teach and promote and be able to communicate and model sound Christian doctrine, and policies of The Salvation Army in Canada.
- Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening with vulnerable sector search.
- Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Please Note : the annual salary range that is listed below will be pro-rated based on the 15-hour work week.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $44,535.40 to $55,673.80 with a maximum of $66,812.20. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
