If so, our Mechanical Service Department is looking for YOU to join us as our new Chiller Mechanic (UA Local 787).

We are seeking a seasoned, detail-oriented Chiller Mechanic to lead field service operations across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). In this critical role, you will be instrumental in the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, overhaul, and commissioning of complex central plant equipment, ensuring system reliability, operational efficiency, and full compliance with environmental and UA Local 787 standards.

As a Chiller Mechanic, you will oversee essential service operations, including advanced diagnostic testing, seasonal overhauls, refrigerant management, and client communication. Your technical expertise and safety-first mindset will directly protect client uptime and equipment longevity, ensuring our service operations remain dependable, safe, and aligned with industry-leading standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Chiller Diagnostics & Overhauls: Diagnose, service, overhaul, and maintain centrifugal, screw, scroll, absorption, and reciprocating chillers across diverse commercial and industrial facilities.
- Preventive Maintenance & Inspections: Perform comprehensive seasonal inspections, startup/shutdown procedures, and routine preventive maintenance on chillers and associated central plant equipment.
- Refrigeration & Controls Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, electronic, and pneumatic control systems using wiring diagrams, schematics,



and computerized diagnostic tools.
- Advanced Testing & Analysis: Conduct vibration analysis, oil sampling, spectroscopic analysis, eddy current testing coordination, and refrigerant leak detection in accordance with environmental regulations.
- Auxiliary Equipment Service: Maintain and repair related central plant infrastructure, including cooling towers, chilled water/condenser pumps, plate-and-frame heat exchangers, VFDs, and building automation interfaces.
- Refrigerant Compliance: Safely execute refrigerant recovery, evacuation, dehydration, pressure testing, and charging adhering to ODP guidelines and provincial regulations.
- Documentation & Reporting: Accurately complete detailed electronic work orders, deficiency reports, and customer recommendations using mobile service software.
- Emergency Response & On-Call Rotation: Participate in rotational after-hours on-call coverage and emergency service calls for mission-critical client facilities.

What You Bring to the Table:

- Trade Certification: Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (313A) and member in positive standing with UA Local 787.
- Chiller Expertise: Minimum of 5 years of dedicated field experience servicing, diagnosing, and repairing commercial and industrial chiller systems.
- Regulatory Credentials: Valid Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) card and a clean, valid Ontario Class "G" Driver’s Licence.
- Technical Mastery: Proven ability to read complex electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and OEM technical literature,



paired with strong electrical/controls troubleshooting skills.
- OEM Asset Knowledge: Factory training or hands-on field experience with major chiller platforms (e.g., Trane, Carrier, York/Johnson Controls, Daikin, Smardt, Multistack) and familiarity with BAS/VFD integration is strongly preferred.
- Communication & Professionalism: Professional customer-facing communication skills, high attention to safety protocols (Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Working at Heights), and the ability to work independently in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and critical environments.
