The Unison at Kerby Elder Abuse Shelter provides a safe and supportive environment for older adults experiencing challenging circumstances. Within the shelter setting, these values are reflected in how we support clients through periods of crisis while respecting their choices, strengths, independence, and right to be treated with dignity.

Position: Client Engagement Provider (2 positions)

Terms of Employment: Fulltime, Permanent

Position 1: Tuesday through Saturday

Position 2: Sunday through Thursday

Salary range: $50,000 - $52,000

Location: Calgary

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Shelter Engagement Lead, the Client Engagement Provider supports the safe and welcoming operation of the Elder Abuse Shelter during evening and weekend hours. The role focuses on direct client support, programming, information and referrals, and responding to client needs while maintaining safety and security. Working collaboratively with staff and community partners, the position provides respectful, trauma-informed, and client-centered service that balances client independence with the needs of the shelter community.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Client Engagement and Support

Provide client-centered, trauma-informed support; build professional relationships; respond to concerns; provide referrals and community resources; maintain accurate documentation and case notes.
1. Shelter Programs

Facilitate activities and programs that promote wellness, social connection, independence, skill development, and client engagement while respecting individual choice.
1. Elder Abuse Resource Line and Community Support

Respond to EARL calls, assess needs and urgency, provide information and referrals, support safety planning, and escalate concerns when required.
1. Team and Administrative Responsibilities





Communicate client and operational information across shifts, complete administrative duties, participate in meetings, training, supervision, and maintain positive working relationships.
1. On-Call Responsibilities

Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to shelter-related situations in accordance with policies and procedures.
1. Organizational Responsibilities

Maintain confidentiality, follow Unison policies and values, and uphold client-centered, trauma-informed, respectful service delivery.

Qualifications:

Education

· Degree preferred (relevant two-year post-secondary diploma considered)

· Equivalent education and relevant experience may be considered.

Experience

· Experience working in shelters, residential programs, resource lines, distress lines, community services, or other client-facing environments preferred.

· Experience facilitating groups, activities, workshops, or community programming is an asset.

· Experience working with older adults, elder abuse, family violence, marginalized populations, addictions, mental health, or individuals experiencing crisis is an asset.

· Relevant practicum experience may be considered.

Additional Training

· Up to date Emergency First Aid with CPR and AED

· ASIST Certification is an asset

· Training or experience in elder abuse, family violence, trauma-informed practice, crisis intervention, de-escalation, or mental health is an asset.

· Willingness to participate in required Unison training and ongoing professional development.

· Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Working Conditions:

· This is a full-time position with a fixed five-day weekly schedule.

· Weekday shifts: 3:15pm to 10:45pm, and Weekend shifts: 11:30am to 7:00pm

· The position may involve working independently during some shifts, with access to Manager or on-call support.

· The successful candidate will participate in the shelter's on-call rotation.

· Working-alone protocols are in place, including an emergency call-alert system.

· The position involves regular interaction with individuals who may be experiencing stress, crisis, trauma, elder abuse, addictions, mental illness, physical disabilities, or other complex circumstances.

· The position requires flexibility to respond to changing client and operational needs during evening and weekend hours.

Physical Requirements

· Must be physically able to remain alert and active throughout the shift.

· Must be able to move throughout the shelter and respond to client and operational needs.

· Must be able to perform duties associated with maintaining a safe and functional shelter environment.

· Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds if necessary

Pay: $50,000.00-$52,000.00 per year
