About Compass Rose Care
Compass Rose Care is a Registered Nurse-led private home care company based in Calgary. We have built our team around a simple idea: care should be led by people trained to notice what others miss, and every client should have someone in their corner who genuinely enjoys the work.
We provide hourly care ranging from non-medical and medical companionship and daily support to complex nursing care, matched to what each client actually needs.
About the Role
We are hiring Compass Companions, non-medical caregivers who provide companionship and hands-on support with daily living for our clients. Many of the people you will work with are living with dementia or other cognitive and physical challenges. This is not a clinical role. You will not be giving medication or performing medical tasks. You will be the steady, familiar face that makes someone's day easier and safer.
What a Shift Could Look Like A typical visit might include preparing a meal together, doing light housekeeping, reminding a client to take medication they manage themselves, or simply sitting down for conversation and a game of cards. Some clients need a calm, patient presence to help with confusion or anxiety. Others just want good company and a hand around the house. You adjust to the person in front of you, not the other way around.
Join our compassionate team as a Compass Companion, where your dedication and caring nature will make a meaningful difference in the lives of seniors and individuals with disabilities. In this vital role, you will provide personalized support, assist with daily activities, and foster a safe, engaging environment. Your efforts will help enhance independence, promote well-being, and create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for those in your care.
This paid position offers an opportunity to grow your caregiving skills while making a positive impact every day.
What We're Looking For
- Clear, confident spoken and written English. You will be communicating with clients, families, and our care team every shift.
- A personality that adapts easily. What works with one client may not work with the next, and you pick up on that quickly.
- Experience in customer service or another client-facing role. You know how to build rapport and stay steady through a hard moment.
- A genuine interest in working with adults living with dementia or special needs, not just a willingness to.
- Openness to coaching, feedback, and ongoing learning.
- A personal smartphone running iOS 17 or newer (Apple) or Android 12 or newer (all other devices), used for scheduling and visit documentation.
Duties
- Assist clients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote independence and dignity
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and preferences
- Provide companionship through engaging conversations, recreational activities, and emotional support
- Perform light housekeeping tasks including cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a tidy living environment
- Help with mobility and transfer techniques using proper lifting methods to ensure safety for both clients and caregivers
- Document care activities accurately and communicate any changes or concerns to supervisors or healthcare professionals
Qualifications
- Prior experience in assisted living, nursing home, hospice care, or home care environments preferred
- Robust understanding of patient care practices and senior care needs
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or dementia is highly desirable
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when required for mobility assistance or household chores
- Excellent communication skills with a compassionate approach to caregiving
- Basic knowledge of medication administration and safety protocols
- Reliable, energetic, and committed to providing high-quality care in a supportive manner
Preferred, Not Required A background in health care, health care aide training, or a related field is an asset, but it is not required. What matters most is character, communication, and how you show up for people.
The Work Is Completely Non-Medical
This role does not include medication administration, wound care, or any clinical tasks. No certifications are required to apply.
If this sounds like the kind of work you are built for, we would like to hear from you.
