Last Mountain Railway operates an 85-mile shortline rail network running from Regina to Davidson, Saskatchewan. Strategically positioned along CN's Craik Subdivision, LMR primarily interchanges with CN in Davidson, with additional interchange access available in Regina. Through a running rights agreement with CN, LMR also connects with affiliate railway Big Sky Rail (BGS), extending our service across a broader regional network.
This is a hands-on railway operations role where you'll work as part of the LMR operating team to support safe train movements, switching and railcar operations. For experienced railway professionals interested in shortline operations, this is an opportunity to join a growing part of MobilGrain's rail network and develop additional operating skills, including Beltpack operation.

Position Summary The Conductor is responsible for supporting the safe and productive movement of trains and railcars across the Last Mountain Railway network and applicable running rights territory.
Working as part of the operating crew, the Conductor performs switching, couples and uncouples railcars, connects air hoses, performs brake tests, completes required paperwork and supports the safe movement and placement of railcars.
The successful candidate will also be trained to safely operate Beltpack equipment as part of their railway operations responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform switching and support the safe movement and placement of railcars across the Last Mountain Railway network.
- Work within applicable running rights territory and interchange locations.
- Couple and uncouple railcars and locomotives.
- Connect and disconnect air hoses and perform required brake tests.
- Complete required railway paperwork and operating documentation.
- Understand and comply with applicable railway signals, operating rules and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with Locomotive Engineers, other crew members and railway personnel to coordinate safe train movements.
- Complete required equipment inspections and identify and report safety or equipment concerns.
- Assist with troubleshooting mechanical issues involving locomotives and report identified issues as required.
- Complete required Beltpack training and safely operate Beltpack equipment.
- Work safely around locomotives, railcars and active railway operations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Grade 12 Diploma or GED required.
- Valid Driver's Licence required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a qualified/ticketed Conductor.
- Basic understanding of railway signals.
- Rule 105 training required.
- QSOC (Qualified Standards for Operating Crews) training required.
- Demonstrated understanding of railway switching, brake tests and safe railcar movement.
- Beltpack experience is considered an asset; training will be provided.
- Locomotive Engineer qualification and experience is considered an asset.
- Strong commitment to safe railway operations.
Work Schedule & Travel
- This is a casual, on-call, unionized position with hours based on operational requirements.
- Hours are not guaranteed and employees are called to work as needed based on railway operations.
- Work is performed throughout the Last Mountain Railway network and applicable running rights territory.
