Peterborough Hours:

30 hours per week Working Pattern:

Monday-Friday, 9:00am-12:00pm and 2:00pm-5:00pm Contract:

Full-Time, 50 weeks per year About the Role

Remedy Tutors are looking for an experienced, patient and highly skilled

SEN Tutor

to provide dedicated 1:1 educational support to a young person with complex additional needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for a tutor who is passionate about supporting young people who may not thrive within a traditional school environment and who can provide a

calm, structured, flexible and highly personalised approach to education . The role will involve delivering a combination of academic tuition, therapeutic and interest-led activities, life skills and carefully planned community-based learning, with the aim of developing both educational progress and independence. About the Young Person

The young person has

Autism Spectrum Disorder , a mild-moderate learning disability and significant social, emotional and mental health needs. He has a strong interest in

mathematics, science, London transport, museums and structured/logic-based activities , and responds particularly well when explanations are clear and reasoning is shared. He can find it difficult to engage with activities that are not linked to his interests, shift his attention between activities and manage changes or challenges to his preferred routines and views. His concentration can also fluctuate depending on his physical health, emotional regulation and the consistency of his daily routine. He also experiences significant anxiety and a severe phobia relating to insects and flora. This can have a considerable impact on his ability to access education and community environments, so the successful tutor will need to be highly aware of triggers and able to follow agreed safety and support strategies. Key Responsibilities

Deliver engaging

1:1 academic tuition

tailored to the young person's individual needs, interests and learning profile. Support progress across core subjects, with a particular focus on developing literacy,

numeracy and preparation towards GCSE-level learning where appropriate. Use

creative, practical and interest-led approaches

to encourage engagement and build confidence. Incorporate interests such as mathematics, science, transport and museums into learning wherever appropriate. Support the development of communication, emotional regulation, independence and social skills. Deliver carefully planned activities that support preparation for adulthood and increased independence. Where appropriate, support structured and planned

community-based learning and activities . Create a calm, predictable and safe learning environment. Adapt resources and teaching approaches to minimise exposure to known anxiety/phobia triggers. Follow relevant risk assessments, safety plans and individual support strategies. Build a positive and trusting relationship through consistency, patience and a trauma-informed approach. Work collaboratively with parents/carers, the Local Authority and other professionals involved in the young person's support. Maintain accurate records of sessions and provide regular progress updates and reports. Contribute to review meetings and the ongoing development of the education package. The EHCP specifically requires an education environment that is alert to the young person's phobia, minimises unplanned exposure to triggers, supports recovery following distress and provides structured preparation for community activities. The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is: Experienced in working with

children and young people with SEN and complex needs . Confident supporting young people with

Autism, anxiety and behavioural/emotional regulation needs . Patient, calm and emotionally resilient.

Able to build robust relationships through consistency and trust. Flexible and creative in their approach to teaching. Confident adapting lessons around the young person's interests and presentation. Comfortable delivering education outside of a traditional classroom environment. Able to support community-based learning where appropriate. Understanding of sensory needs and the importance of predictable routines. Able to recognise signs of anxiety or dysregulation and respond appropriately. Confident working as part of a wider professional network. Reliable and committed to providing consistent support throughout the year. Experience of working with young people with: Complex SEN Anxiety and phobias Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs Challenging or dysregulated behaviour Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS) / alternative provision 1:1 tuition Community-based education A teaching qualification, QTS, SEN qualification or relevant tutoring/education experience would be advantageous. Working Pattern

This is a

full-time, 30-hour-per-week role , delivered across

50 weeks of the year , rather than the standard 38-week academic year. Daily timetable: 9:00am - 12:00pm:

Morning educational session 12:00pm - 2:00pm:

Break / lunch 2:00pm - 5:00pm:

Afternoon educational session The additional weeks provide greater consistency and continuity for the young person's education and allow provision to continue throughout most of the calendar year. Why Join Remedy Tutors?

At Remedy Tutors, we specialise in supporting children and young people with SEN through personalised tuition and alternative provision. This is an opportunity to make a

genuine long-term difference

to a young person's education, confidence, independence and preparation for adulthood while working closely with a supportive professional team. If you are a dedicated SEN professional who believes that

education should be adapted around the young person rather than expecting the young person to fit a traditional education model , we would love to hear from you.
