The Fleet Mechanic - Emergency Vehicles is responsible to perform skilled mechanical repair and maintenance work on a variety of Regional District vehicles and equipment, with a particular focus on Emergency Vehicle Fleet. Specific duties include performance of preventative maintenance checks, ordering of required parts and file maintenance on the vehicle fleet.Full-timeResponsibilities1.Prioritize, diagnose, repair, replaceand adjust to follow Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC), Transport Canada and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommendations as needed on all Fire and Rescue vehicles in the RDCO fleet (approx. 40 units in 5 rural fire halls, 2 city fire halls, and 1 boat house) to minimize downtime. This includes all equipment and electronic systems attached thereto (e.G. jaw systems, chain saws, power generation equipment, portable pumps). Supply and maintain own mechanic handtools.2.Diagnose, repair, replace and adjust all non-emergency fleet vehicles, as needed, and a variety of other Regional District equipment, including preventative maintenance inspections.3.Maintain the RDCO Fleet Preventative Maintenance Program. Inspect and certify fleet under provincial legislation (CVSE).4.Document all inspections and repairs performed and keep a file on each vehicle in the fleet.5.Perform all work in accordance with current legislation, established safety procedures, and manufacturer’s specifications, including lock‑out and tag‑out requirements where applicable.6.Coordinate with external service providers and dealerships for specialized repairs,



including transporting vehicles or equipment and acting as a technical liaison to support timely completion of work.7.Fabricate custom equipment and accessories for the Regional District. Perform welding repair and fabrication tasks as required.8.Work with internal departments to assist in the development and review of specifications for new vehicle and equipment acquisitions. Provide instruction to staff on the safe use of new equipment.9.Maintain and repair generators at fire halls, including scheduling regular inspections in accordance with established safety procedures.10.Acts as relief for Fleet Mechanic during periods of absence, holidays and emergency situations..11.Provide training, guidance and technical oversight to apprentices or junior staff when assigned.12.Other related duties as required.QualificationsTraining and Experience Required:Minimum three years wide-ranging experience in mechanical repair work and fleet maintenance programs following completion of BC Journeyman certification or equivalent.Heavy Duty Mechanic or Truck and Transport Mechanic with BC Journeyman Certification or equivalent.Private/commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate or equivalent (CVSE).Inspection Facility Operator Certificate (CVSE).Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Level 1.Air Brake Endorsement.Valid Class 3 Drivers License.Experience with Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP)
