Position Summary
TFM Consultants International Ltd. is seeking an experienced Director of Business Operations to strengthen day-to-day operations and support continued growth.
TFM is BC’s leading provider of Power Engineering education, technical consulting, plant operations support, and temporary Power Engineer staffing services, serving industrial, commercial, institutional, and municipal clients.
The Director will coordinate and improve operations across TFM's service lines while working closely with senior management, operations, instructors, technical personnel, and administrative staff. The role will focus on operational leadership, accountability, staff performance, client service, and process improvement.
The successful candidate will take ownership of assigned responsibilities, identify and resolve operational issues, improve consistency and efficiency, and provide management with accurate information and practical recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
- Manage day-to-day operations of TFM's three core business divisions: Education and Training, Shift Coverage, and Consulting Services.
- Provide management oversight of TFM's temporary Power Engineer staffing operation, leading a workforce of 70+ Shift Coverage staff.
- Participate in employee coaching, performance discussions, corrective action, and development in coordination with the CEO/COO, Director of Corporate Strategy, IT & HR, and external HR advisors as appropriate.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, retention, cross-training, and workforce planning.
- Work with management to improve the reliability, profitability, and scalability of the business division.
- Set transparent performance expectations for employees within the Director's area of responsibility.
- Conduct regular operational meetings and ensure assigned actions are completed.
- Provide direct management support and direction to the Operations Coordinator, ensuring clear priorities, authority, support, and appropriate backup resources.
- Ensure scheduling, staffing, and administrative processes (including timesheet completion and operational reporting)
are documented and not dependent on one individual.
- Develop a supportive workplace culture built around accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Work with the Director of Corporate Strategy, IT & HR and other management personnel to improve TFM's business systems and processes.
- Provide concise and accurate reporting to the CEO and COO on staffing and coverage, operational priorities, projects, employee matters, financial and operational variances, process improvements, business risks, and decisions requiring executive involvement.
Client Service & Relationship Management
- Ensure TFM clients receive professional, timely, and consistent service, including inquiries, staffing requests, quotations, operational concerns, and follow-up commitments.
- Maintain relationships with key operational contacts and proactively address service concerns before they require executive intervention.
- Communicate with prospective clients, providing insight into TFM's services and how they can meet client needs.
- Coordinate client onboarding, ensuring client information is received and client needs are addressed in a timely fashion.
- Identify opportunities to expand services with existing clients and communicate them to the CEO and appropriate business-development resources.
Consulting and Educational Support
- Support the operational delivery of TFM's Power Engineering school and training programs by coordinating scheduling, instructors, resources, student administration, facilities, and equipment while maintaining high student service standards.
- Coordinate the transition, setup, and ongoing management of TFM’s physical facilities, including relocation to new premises.
- Ensure facilities are appropriately equipped,
maintained, organized, and fit for staff, instructors, students, and clients.
- Support the CEO and technical team with the business administration and coordination of consulting projects.
Financial & Operational Performance
- Work with the CEO, COO, and accounting resources to monitor key financial and operational metrics, identify material variances, and recommend actions to improve revenue, profitability, utilization, expenses, receivables, client retention, and sales performance.
- Understand the financial drivers of TFM's major service lines and make informed operational recommendations accordingly.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of operations, business management, or senior supervisory experience
- A degree in business, management, or a related field
- Experience coordinating multiple employees, clients, projects, or business functions
- Strong financial and commercial understanding
- Experience managing client relationships
- Demonstrated ability to hold employees accountable while maintaining a professional workplace
- Strong organizational and project-management skills
- Experience improving business processes and operational systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong judgment and decision-making ability
- Experience working directly with owners, executives, or senior leadership
- Demonstrated history of taking ownership and delivering measurable results
Experience within engineering, facilities management, industrial operations, construction, technical services, skilled trades, education, staffing, or another regulated technical industry would be highly desirable. Knowledge of Power Engineering is considered an asset but is not required for a candidate with strong business operations experience.

Pay: $120,000.00-$140,000.00 per year
