ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

Humans of HR has been engaged on a confidential basis to lead the search for a Director of Sales & Marketing on behalf of a well-established, profitable B2B SaaS company. Because this search is confidential, the company's name and identifying details are shared only with candidates who advance to the interview stage and sign a non-disclosure agreement. What follows is an accurate description of the chance, the mandate, and the ideal candidate.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Our client is a mature, profitable software company with a long, established operating history and a loyal customer base for its product, serving sales and client-facing teams across several international markets. The business is privately owned, financially healthy, and backed by ownership that is actively investing in modernizing the company's go-to-market approach. It is a lean, close-knit organization where a senior leader can have outsized, visible impact — without the bureaucracy of a larger enterprise.

THE ROLE

This is an execution-focused leadership mandate. The company already has a clear sense of its market position and growth priorities; what it needs now is an experienced, hands-on operator who can take ownership of the sales and marketing engine, bring discipline and accountability to the existing go-to-market motion, and consistently deliver results. This role suits someone who thrives on running the play well — building pipeline, closing revenue, and aligning a marketing function around it — rather than someone looking to design strategy from a blank page.

The Director of Sales & Marketing will unify what have historically been separate sales and marketing functions under a single accountable leader, reporting directly to a Snr Leader, with a mandate to professionalize forecasting, tighten the handoff between demand generation and sales execution, and build a high-performance revenue team.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Sales Leadership

- Own the sales function end-to-end: pipeline generation, forecasting, deal execution, and quota attainment across a global customer base.
- Coach, manage, and where needed rebuild the sales team, instilling a culture of accountability, process discipline, and consistent quota performance.
- Implement and enforce a repeatable, data-driven sales methodology, including CRM hygiene, pipeline reviews, and accurate forecasting.
- Manage key and strategic accounts personally where it matters most to revenue outcomes.

Marketing Leadership

- Direct the marketing function — demand generation, events, content, and brand — ensuring it is tightly aligned to sales pipeline needs rather than operating independently.
- Set and manage the marketing budget, prioritizing initiatives with clear, measurable return on pipeline and revenue.
- Oversee a marketing dashboard and reporting cadence that gives leadership real visibility into funnel performance.

Cross-Functional & Leadership

- Report directly to the CFO on revenue performance, forecast accuracy, and go-to-market health.
- Coordinate with the broader organization's corporate marketing and communications resources where relevant.
- Build a high-performance, accountable culture across both functions, with clear metrics and regular performance management.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN YEAR ONE

- Sales forecasting is accurate, disciplined, and trusted by finance leadership.

- Marketing spend is clearly tied to pipeline contribution, with underperforming initiatives reallocated or cut.
- The sales and marketing teams operate as one aligned revenue function rather than two separate departments.
- Revenue targets are met or exceeded, with a healthy, well-qualified pipeline sustaining future quarters.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

- 10–15+ years of progressive sales leadership experience within B2B SaaS, selling to SMB and mid-market customers.
- A track record of leading both sales and marketing, or sales leadership with strong, hands-on fluency in demand generation and marketing operations.
- Demonstrated success managing and improving an existing revenue engine — rather than only start-up or greenfield go-to-market building.
- Strong operational and financial discipline: comfort owning a P&L-adjacent; budget, forecasting rigorously, and reporting to finance leadership.
- A working style best described as a “farmer” rather than a “hunter” of strategy: someone who takes a good plan and executes it relentlessly, rather than someone who needs to reinvent the model.
- Comfortable managing a small, internationally distributed team and collaborating across time zones.

COMPENSATION & LOCATION Base salary in the range of $160,000–$190,000 CAD, commensurate with experience, plus a competitive performance-based incentive plan tied to revenue results. The role is based in Vancouver in the office; further location and in-office expectations are shared directly with shortlisted candidates.

THE PROCESS

This search is being conducted by Humans of HR on a confidential, retained basis. Interested and qualified candidates will be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement before receiving the company's name and further details. All inquiries and applications are handled in strict confidence.
