This position is based in Steinbach, but travel to schools throughout the Division is required. Start date as soon as possible.
TERM POSITION WITH THE POTENTIAL OF BECOMING PERMANENT.
The person is responsible for a wide variety of duties in support of the Hanover School Division Maintenance Dept. This includes applying preparatory materials, paints and stains to surfaces of walls, ceilings, equipment and furniture. This includes the major areas of responsibility; duties may be added or deleted by the Director of Facilities as required. Hours of work are established by the Director of Facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare surfaces and apply protective and decorative coats of paint, varnish, lacquer, and/or other related materials to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, equipment and other structures
- Clean equipment, paint mixing area and work area upon completion of job
- Operate compressors, striping machines, sandblasters, spray equipment, and other small power equipment
- Erect various types of scaffolding, staging, ladders, and planks to reach surfaces of work area
- Can include weekend work
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of all applicable codes,
standards and regulations
- Knowledge of the tools, equipment and materials common to the trade
- Direct work experience as a painter in a warehouse environment preferred
- Ability to maintain confidentiality is mandatory
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently in a time sensitive environment
- Strong customer service and attention to detail in all areas of work
- Flexible and able to quickly adapt to changing priorities
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
