Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electromechanical Design Engineer specializing in the mechanical design of switchboards (SWB), switchgear (SWG), control-panel enclosures and skid-mounted systems.

The primary focus is SolidWorks or other Software design, manufacturing documentation, skid load calculations and thermal analysis.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop detailed 3D models of switchboards, switchgear, control-panel enclosures and skid-mounted systems.
- Design sheet-metal enclosures, doors, covers, partitions, mounting plates, internal supports and structural frames.
- Arrange electrical components while maintaining required clearances, accessibility, ventilation and serviceability.
- Design equipment skids, base frames, lifting provisions, mounting supports and equipment interfaces.
- Prepare manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, exploded views and bills of materials.
- Apply geometric dimensioning, tolerancing and appropriate sheet-metal manufacturing practices.
- Coordinate designs with electrical engineers, fabricators, certification agencies and production personnel.
- Revise designs based on manufacturing feedback, testing results and certification requirements.

Skid Load Calculations The candidate should have previous experience with documented skid load calculations, including:

- Equipment weight distribution
- Centre-of-gravity calculations
- Static and operating loads
- Lifting and transportation loads
- Support and foundation reaction loads
- Skid deflection and structural-stress calculations
- Equipment mounting and anchoring requirements
- Load combinations and applicable safety factors

Thermal Calculations The candidate should have previous experience performing thermal calculations for electrical enclosures including:

- Component heat-loss calculations
- Enclosure temperature-rise calculations
- Internal hot-spot evaluation
- Ambient temperature and solar-loading effects
- Natural and forced-air ventilation calculations
- Airflow requirements
- Fan, filter,

heat-exchanger and air-conditioner sizing
- Equipment derating at elevated temperatures
- Verification of acceptable component operating temperatures

Applicable Standards The engineer must understand how mechanical design, construction and thermal performance affect compliance with the latest applicable editions of:

Canadian Standards

- CSA C22.2 No. 14 — Industrial control equipment
- CSA C22.2 No. 29 — Panelboards and enclosed panelboards
- CSA C22.2 No. 31 — Switchgear assemblies
- CSA C22.2 No. 244 — Switchboards
- CSA C22.2 No. 286 — Industrial control panels and assemblies, where applicable

United States Standards

- UL 891 — Switchboards
- UL 1558 — Metal-Enclosed Low-Voltage Power Circuit Breaker Switchgear
- UL 508 — Industrial Control Equipment
- UL 508A — Industrial Control Panels
- IEEE C37.20.1 and ANSI C37.51, where applicable

Required Qualifications

- Demonstrated experience designing switchboards, switchgear, control panels or similar electrical equipment.
- Solid sheet-metal, assembly and manufacturing-drawing skills.
- Experience designing structural skids, equipment frames and lifting arrangements.
- Previous experience completing thermal and skid load calculations.
- Knowledge of electrical-enclosure clearances, ventilation, accessibility and fabrication requirements.
- Familiarity with CSA and UL certification requirements.

Mandatory Application Evidence Applicants must show evidence of relevant previous work. All customer names, project names, pricing and confidential information must be removed.

The submission should include:

- 3D models, screenshots or manufacturing drawings for switchboards, switchgear, control panels or skid systems
- A sample thermal calculation or thermal-analysis report
- A sample skid load or structural calculation
- A list of all software used for design and calculations
- An explanation of which calculations were performed manually and which were performed using software

Pay: $110,000.00-$130,000.00 per year

Work Location: In person
