The Dog House Catering
Fredericton
The Dog House Catering is a small, locally owned catering company in Fredericton. We are hiring two dependable Event Coordinators to oversee individual catering jobs and make sure they are properly staffed, organized and completed as promised.
Our work ranges from simple local deliveries to weddings, corporate functions and staffed buffets. The client’s order and event requirements are confirmed before the coordinator becomes involved. Your responsibility is to review the plan, arrange the required drivers and servers from our existing contractor group, and follow the job through to completion.
This is a practical coordination role, not an event-planning, cooking or serving position.
Responsibilities
- Review upcoming catering jobs and identify their staffing, timing and delivery requirements.
- Find and confirm available drivers and servers from our approved contractor group.
- Make sure everyone involved understands where they need to be, when they need to arrive and what they are responsible for.
- Confirm through the driver or server that the order is ready on time and checked for accuracy at pickup.
- Monitor the job from preparation through delivery or event completion.
- Respond calmly and practically if a delay, staffing issue or other problem occurs.
- Keep the business informed through clear written updates.
- Confirm that the required signed documents and photographs are collected after the job.
Most smaller jobs can be coordinated remotely. Coordinators are welcome to attend pickups or events when they feel being there would help them manage the job. A valid driver’s licence and reliable access to a vehicle are required. Who we are looking for
You do not need formal event-planning experience. We are more interested in practical experience coordinating people, schedules, deliveries or other time-sensitive work. Relevant experience may come from hospitality, dispatch, logistics, transportation,
office coordination, property management, construction, the trades or another operational environment.
The right person will
- Take ownership of assignments they accept.
- Be dependable and follow up without repeated reminders.
- Read instructions carefully and identify what actually needs to be done.
- Be comfortable making decisions and solving straightforward problems.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with different people.
- Be comfortable conducting most routine coordination through text messages and group chats.
- Provide timely updates so others are not left wondering what is happening.
- Remain calm when plans change.
Strong written communication is essential. Telephone calls are sometimes necessary, but this is not a telephone-first position.
Assignments and compensation
This is adaptable, occasional independent-contractor work. Upcoming assignments are shared in advance, and coordinators decide which opportunities they are interested in accepting. There are no guaranteed hours and no penalty for declining an assignment.
Once you accept an assignment, we expect you to take responsibility for ensuring it is properly staffed and followed through to completion.
Smaller assignments generally pay $30–$35 per hour with a one-hour minimum. Larger events are normally offered at an agreed flat rate based on the expected preparation and event-day involvement. The scope, timing and compensation are provided before you accept each assignment.
Contractors submit invoices for completed work.
Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour
Application question(s)
- A catering order is scheduled for delivery at noon on Saturday. The approved order requires one server, a delivery driver and rented chafing dishes with early drop off at 9:00am. Pickup is at 11:15 a.m. Nobody has been confirmed yet. In no more than 200 words, explain how you would handle the assignment from the time you receive it until it is completed.
