Company Description The Western Canada Regional Council of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters represents affiliated local unions and their members across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. The Council coordinates regional activities, supports local union leadership, and strengthens collaboration among members, all with a focus on improving working lives. With more than 140 years of history, the organization advocates for job fairness and family-sustaining wages, benefits, and pensions.

It leads in training, educating, and representing the next generation of skilled construction professionals. The Council’s objective is to unite the membership and support the long-term interests of members and their families.

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role for Experienced Trades People based in Victoria, BC. In this position, individuals will perform skilled construction and carpentry work, including layout, framing, formwork, finishing, and installation tasks on a variety of projects.

Responsibilities may include reading and interpreting blueprints, safely operating tools and equipment, and working collaboratively with site supervisors, forepersons, and other trades to meet project schedules and quality standards. Tradespeople will be expected to follow safety protocols, maintain a clean and organized work area,



and uphold union and employer policies on the job site. The role may also involve mentoring apprentices, contributing to continuous improvement of work practices, and representing the values of the Western Canada Regional Council on all assigned projects.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated experience in carpentry or related construction trades, including skills in layout, framing, formwork, and finishing.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, and site instructions.
- Proficient in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment, with a strong commitment to occupational health and safety.
- Experience working on commercial, industrial, or residential construction sites, meeting quality and productivity expectations.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving abilities, with a qualified approach to working with diverse crews and site leadership.
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program and/or Red Seal or equivalent trade certification is an asset.
- Valid safety training (e.g., WHMIS, fall protection, first aid) and willingness to participate in ongoing training and skills development.
- Reliable transportation to the Victoria, BC job site and readiness to work in varying weather and site conditions.
