McInnis u0026 Holloway Funeral Home

Calgary

McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, an independent and progressive funeral home with locations in and around Calgary, has been serving the community for over 120 years. We pride ourselves on providing the highest quality funeral services in an atmosphere of dignity and respect.

If you're the kind of person who notices something isn't working properly and immediately starts figuring out why, you may be exactly who we're looking for.

We are looking for a practical, dependable and resourceful Maintenance Technician to join our team. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys variety, knows their way around general repairs and maintenance, and is comfortable figuring out solutions when the answer isn't immediately obvious.

Our Maintenance team supports multiple funeral home locations, which means no two days look quite the same. You might be repairing drywall or a door one day, troubleshooting a building issue the next, maintaining exterior spaces, moving equipment, sourcing a replacement part, or dealing with something nobody expected to break that morning.

Because of the environment we work in, there's another important part of the job: knowing what's happening around you. Our buildings remain active while maintenance work is being completed, often with funeral services and families present. You'll need to work efficiently while also knowing when the situation calls for discretion, flexibility and a quieter approach.

What You'll Do

Your responsibilities will include

- Completing general building maintenance and repairs that do not require a specialized trade, including drywall repair, painting, doors, fixtures and minor plumbing.
- Repairing and maintaining furniture, office equipment and other building components.
- Troubleshooting maintenance issues and determining practical repair solutions.
- Identifying and sourcing appropriate parts, materials and supplies through local vendors.
- Moving and relocating furniture, inventory and equipment as required.
- Maintaining grounds, parking areas, fountains and exterior features.
- Completing seasonal property maintenance, including early-morning snow and ice removal across our locations to ensure entrances, walkways and other required areas are safe and ready before families and guests arrive.
- Identifying potential building or property safety concerns and addressing or reporting them appropriately.
- Prioritizing work across multiple locations based on urgency,

operational needs and the needs of the families we serve.
- Recognizing when a repair is within your abilities — and when the right solution is to involve a specialized trade.
- Performing other operational duties required to support the the families we serve.

What We’re Looking For We're looking for someone with solid general maintenance knowledge who is comfortable working independently and solving problems as they come up.

You should have

- Experience with general maintenance, carpentry, painting, minor plumbing and general repairs; 2+ years of relevant experience is preferred.
- Strong practical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to organize your work independently while adjusting priorities when something more urgent comes up.
- Good situational awareness and the ability to adapt your work to an active, changing workplace.
- The ability to follow direction and work collaboratively with other members of the Maintenance team and leadership.
- Basic comfort using email, Microsoft Teams and other digital tools used for day-to-day communication.
- A professional, respectful approach when working around employees, guests and families.
- Are dependable, punctual and prepared to work when your shift begins.
- Adapt well when circumstances, priorities or timelines change unexpectedly.
- Understand that no task is unimportant when it contributes to providing an exceptional experience for a family.

The Important Stuff This is a physically active position. You must be able to regularly bend, twist, reach, pull, push and stoop, and safely move, lift, carry, push, pull and place objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

Driving between company locations is a regular part of the position. You must have:

- A current Class 5 non-GDL driver's license.
- A driver's abstract with six or fewer demerits
- Continuous insurance coverage for a minimum of the past three years, with no gaps in coverage
- Ability to successfully complete a background/security clearance.

Schedule & Compensation This is a full-time, permanent, year-round position working 37.5 hours per week.

- Starting wage: $27.00/hour
- Monday to Friday
- Winter hours: 6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
- Summer hours: 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
