The Opportunity A growing healthcare services organization is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead its accounting and finance function. This is a hands-on leadership role with broad responsibility for financial reporting, planning, treasury, compliance, internal controls, and operational finance.

Working closely with senior leadership and operational teams, you will provide clear financial insight, strengthen processes and controls, and support sustainable growth. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with sound business judgment, an improvement-focused mindset, and the ability to develop a high-performing finance team.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Controls

- Oversee the full accounting cycle, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end and year-end close.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Maintain and strengthen accounting policies, procedures, governance practices, and internal controls.
- Coordinate external audits and manage requests from auditors and other professional advisors.

Budgeting and Business Performance

- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
- Monitor performance against budget and analyze revenue, expenses, margins, working capital, and cash flow.
- Develop executive-level reporting and dashboards that translate financial data into actionable insights.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability, cost management, and operational efficiency.

Revenue and Treasury Management





- Oversee billing, collections, revenue recognition, patient or client accounts, and payment plans across publicly and privately funded services.
- Support pricing analysis, service-line profitability reviews, and revenue-cycle improvements.
- Manage cash-flow forecasting, liquidity, banking relationships, payment approvals, and financial risk.
- Ensure sufficient funding is available for operations, equipment, and growth initiatives.

Compliance and Risk

- Ensure compliance with applicable tax, employment, privacy, and healthcare-related financial requirements.
- Protect organizational and confidential information through effective financial controls and data-security practices.
- Proactively identify financial, operational, and compliance risks and recommend practical solutions.

Leadership and Strategic Support

- Lead, coach, and develop finance staff, including establishing objectives, performance measures, development plans, and effective workflows.
- Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and clear accountability across the finance function.
- Partner with senior leadership on strategic planning, organizational growth, new locations, partnerships, and potential acquisitions.




- Prepare financial models and business cases for significant investments and projects.
- Lead or support finance transformation initiatives, including process automation, system enhancements, and technology implementations.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Professional Accountant designation is required.
- At least 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including a minimum of three years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- Demonstrated experience managing an accounting function from end to end and supporting senior leaders with financial analysis and business strategy.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, cash-flow management, internal controls, financial planning and analysis, and revenue recognition.
- Working knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, tax requirements, audit processes, privacy obligations, and financial compliance practices.
- Experience improving finance processes, strengthening controls, optimizing costs, and supporting organizational growth.
- Experience with accounting or enterprise resource planning systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modelling, PivotTables, Power Query, and complex formulas.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, project management, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Experience in healthcare, a medical practice, or another multi-site service setting is preferred. Familiarity with healthcare billing and collections is an asset.
