Job Summary

Piscine Fishing Company harvests Mysis shrimp from Okanagan Lake at night, supplying fish feed products to aquariums, zoos, and aquaculture customers worldwide. We're hiring a Catch Boat Operator / Commercial Fishing Deckhand — a role with more independent responsibility than a typical entry-level deckhand job. You'll help set the net, then run the receiving side of our fishing system alone aboard the catch boat for most of the night.

No commercial fishing experience required; we'll train the right person.

Duties

- Help the skipper prepare, set, and retrieve the trawl net at the start and end of each shift
- Work independently aboard the catch boat — an unpowered vessel towed behind the trawl boat — monitoring the conveyor and catch flow for the rest of the night
- Place harvested Mysis into bins and keep the work area organized and safe
- Watch for equipment issues (leaks, unusual noises, rigging problems) and communicate them to the skipper right away
- Help with routine cleaning, gear prep, net work, and minor repairs, including on nights when weather cancels fishing
- Report defects, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly

Qualifications

- No prior commercial fishing experience required — we'll train

- 1+ year of hands-on experience preferred: marine, mechanical, small engines, construction, trades, or agriculture
- Comfortable working alone on a small vessel at night while under tow
- Mechanically inclined, with basic troubleshooting ability
- Physically able to lift and move bins and handle fishing gear
- Reliable transportation; able to work a rotating overnight schedule
- Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC)

What makes this different

Inland, sheltered-water commercial fishing — you're home every morning, not living aboard. A defined rotation with four consecutive nights off. Catch-based earnings on top of guaranteed shift pay. And a real path forward: robust performers can grow into a Skipper or marine operations role.

This is a safety-sensitive, working-alone marine position. You'll need to be fit for duty, free from impairment, and able to manage fatigue responsibly across a long overnight shift.

Pay: $225.00-$250.00 per day

Benefits

- Casual dress
- Employee assistance program
- Extended health care
- Flexible schedule
- Life insurance
- On-site parking
- Vision care
