FUND DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
POSITION SUMMARY The Fund Development Manager is responsible for building strong relationships with donors, corporate partners, foundations, funders, sponsors, and community supporters while developing sustainable strategies to increase philanthropic revenue for YOUCAN Youth Services. Working closely with the Executive Director, leadership team, Board of Directors, and community partners, the Fund Development Manager will help tell the story of YOUCAN’s impact and connect individuals and organizations with meaningful opportunities to invest in young people.
This position requires someone who is comfortable building relationships, making asks, developing proposals, organizing fundraising initiatives, and representing YOUCAN in the community. The successful candidate will be organized, outgoing, strategic, and passionate about creating opportunities for youth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fund Development Strategy
· Work with Executive Director to develop and implement YOUCAN’s fund development strategy and revenue goals.
· Develop strategies to diversify YOUCAN’s funding and reduce reliance on any single funding source.
· Identify opportunities for individual giving, corporate partnerships, sponsorships, grants, foundations, campaigns, and fundraising events.
· Develop annual fundraising plans, timelines, targets, and performance measures.
· Track fund development results and provide regular reporting to the Executive Director and Board as required.
· Support longer-term fundraising and capital priorities of the organization.
Donor Development & Stewardship
· Build and maintain meaningful relationships with existing and prospective donors.
· Develop strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, recognize, and steward donors.
· Coordinate donor meetings, tours, presentations, thank-you communications, and other engagement opportunities.
· Develop personalized stewardship strategies for major donors and key supporters.
· Maintain regular communication with YOUCAN supporters to ensure donors understand the impact of their contributions.
· Identify opportunities to move supporters from one-time giving toward ongoing or increased support.
· Ensure charitable gifts are appropriately acknowledged and recognized.
Corporate Partnerships & Sponsorships
· Identify and develop relationships with businesses and corporate partners that align with YOUCAN’s mission.
· Develop sponsorship packages and partnership proposals for YOUCAN programs, events, campaigns, and initiatives.
· Secure financial and in-kind sponsorships.
· Maintain relationships with existing corporate supporters and identify opportunities to expand those partnerships.
· Work collaboratively with community partners to develop creative opportunities that benefit YOUCAN youth and the broader community.
· Work with program managers to gather program statistics, outcomes, stories, budgets, and other information required.
· Coordinate funder reports and ensure reporting deadlines and funding requirements are met.
· Maintain strong relationships with funding organizations and foundations.
Fundraising Events & Campaigns
· Lead the fund development component of YOUCAN fundraising events and campaigns.
· Develop sponsorship and donor strategies for signature fundraising initiatives.
· Recruit and steward event sponsors and supporters.
· Work with staff, volunteers, vendors,
and community partners to support successful events.
· Develop strategies to maximize revenue while maintaining solid donor and guest experiences.
· Conduct post-event evaluation and provide recommendations for future fundraising initiatives.
· Identify new fundraising opportunities that align with YOUCAN’s culture, community, and mission.
Donor Communications & Storytelling
· Work collaboratively with YOUCAN staff to communicate the impact of programs and services.
· Develop donor-focused content including impact stories, cases for support, sponsorship materials, proposals, campaign materials, presentations, and stewardship communications.
· Ensure fundraising communications accurately and respectfully represent the experiences of YOUCAN youth.
· Support annual reports, donor updates, fundraising campaigns, and other organizational communications as required.
Database, Tracking & Administration
· Maintain accurate and confidential donor, sponsor, prospect, and funding records.
· Track donations, pledges, sponsorships, grant applications, contacts, and stewardship activities.
· Maintain an active fund development pipeline and prospect list.
· Provide regular reports on fundraising activities, opportunities, revenue, and progress toward targets.
· Ensure charitable receipting and donor acknowledgement processes are completed appropriately.
· Maintain appropriate documentation related to donations, sponsorship agreements, grants, and donor restrictions.
· Ensure fund development practices comply with applicable legislation, CRA requirements, privacy requirements, and ethical fundraising standards.
Community Engagement
· Act as an ambassador for YOUCAN Youth Services within the Edmonton community.
· Attend community events, networking opportunities, presentations, and meetings on behalf of YOUCAN.
· Build relationships with businesses, community organizations, foundations, service clubs, and other potential supporters.
· Coordinate opportunities for donors and partners to visit YOUCAN and experience the organization’s work firsthand.
· Identify individuals and organizations that have the potential to become long-term champions of YOUCAN.
Board & Leadership Support
· Work closely with the Executive Director on major donor and funder relationships.
· Support Board members in identifying and cultivating prospective donors and community connections.
· Prepare fund development updates and reports for leadership and the Board of Directors as requested.
· Support Board participation in fundraising, sponsorship, and donor stewardship activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
· Post-secondary education in fundraising, nonprofit management, communications, public relations, or a related field is an asset.
· Minimum 3–5 years of experience in fundraising, fund development, sales, business development, community engagement, nonprofit leadership, or a related field. Experience working with non-profits sector is an asset.
· Demonstrated experience building and maintaining relationships with donors, sponsors, funders,
or corporate partners.
· Experience with sponsorship development, donor stewardship, or fundraising events is strongly preferred.
· Equivalent combinations of education, professional experience, and demonstrated fundraising success will be considered.

· Understanding of ethical fundraising and donor stewardship practices.
· Strong computer skills and comfort using donor databases, Microsoft Office, online grant systems, and digital communication platforms.
· Genuine enthusiasm for YOUCAN’s mission and the young people we serve.
PERFORMANCE MEASURES
Success in this position will be measured through a combination of financial and relationship-based outcomes, including:
· Achievement of annual fund development revenue targets.
· Growth and diversification of philanthropic revenue.
· Growth in individual and corporate donors.
· Donor retention and renewal.
· Development of new corporate and community partnerships.
· Grant application and funding success.
· Sponsorship revenue generated.
· Growth of YOUCAN's prospective donor pipeline.
· Quality and consistency of donor stewardship.
· Successful delivery of fundraising campaigns and events.
· Accuracy of donor records, reporting, and fund development administration.
· Fundraising success at YOUCAN will not be measured solely by dollars raised. The strength, sustainability, and quality of the relationships developed on behalf of the organization are equally important.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· The main working hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm, regular flexibility will be required as evening and weekend priorities arise. Moderate amounts of overtime may be required.
· This will be an office-based position with travel to external meetings and events.
· Moderate physical effort is required to assist with events that could involve lifting and standing for long periods of time and working in various climates. Prolonged periods of sitting, telephone use, and computer use.
· This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for company use. A Company vehicle may also be available at times.
· Employment Security Check, Child Intervention Check and Class 5 Driver’s License.
