About the Opportunity
We are launching the next major chapter of our story as Rundle Bike evolves into Rundle Ski and Bike. To support this milestone, we are opening a premier, flagship retail and rental destination in Canmore, Alberta—positioned right on the doorstep of Banff National Park and central to the region’s top ski areas and trail networks. We are looking for an entrepreneurial, performance-focused General Manager to take operational ownership of this flagship location, drive commercial growth, and build a high-performing retail and rental team.
Compensation, Schedule & Benefits
Base Salary: $60,000+ depending on experience
Incentive Structure: Annual performance-based bonus tied to sales growth, budget management, and operational KPIs
Employment Status: Full-time, year-round permanent position
Schedule Requirements: Year Round, 40+ hours per week, including weekends, peak holiday periods, and seasonal operational shifts

Detailed Responsibilities
Financial Performance & General Operations
- Manage all day-to-day operations for both the retail store and rental shop to ensure high operational efficiency and profitability.
- Develop, monitor, and execute operational budgets, labor cost targets, and expense controls.
- Analyze local market conditions, sales trends, and customer traffic patterns to create and implement proactive sales growth strategies.
- Implement and enforce cash handling, financial auditing, register reconciliation,
and loss-prevention procedures to protect store assets.
- Report operational updates, financial metrics, and strategic initiatives directly to company ownership on a routine basis.
Inventory & Rental Fleet Management
- Oversee comprehensive inventory management for both retail stock and rental assets (skis, snowboards, boots, bikes, accessories, and protective gear).
- Coordinate receiving, merchandising, cycle counts, year-end audits, and supplier product rotation to maximize margin and minimize shrinkage.
- Organize rental shop workflows, fitting protocols, equipment maintenance, and safety inspections to streamline guest throughput and minimize wait times during peak periods.
- Maintain complete compliance with liability waivers, safety guidelines, age/weight DIN settings, and internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Team Leadership, Recruitment & Development
- Lead full lifecycle talent management: recruit, interview, hire, schedule, and onboard store associates, rental technicians, and supervisors.
- Provide continuous coaching, conduct regular performance evaluations, and foster employee retention through structured leadership.
- Design and execute regular training modules covering POS software proficiency, technical product specs, sizing standards, guest engagement, and workplace safety.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels tailored to seasonal volume shifts while adhering to labor budget limits.
Guest Experience & Brand Representation
- Establish a customer-focused culture that delivers technical product knowledge and guest service standards across all touchpoints.
- Handle complex customer service escalations with professionalism, finding effective solutions that build long-term customer loyalty.
- Represent Rundle Ski and Bike as a premier local destination for mountain sports equipment and rentals within the Bow Valley community and beyond.
Candidate Qualifications & Requirements
Mandatory Requirements
- Education: Degree or diploma in Business Administration, Retail Management, Sports Management, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and extensive industry experience).
- Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of retail experience, with at least 3 years in a direct supervisory, assistant manager, or general manager role within a high-volume environment.
- Technical & Computer Skills: Strong proficiency with retail/rental Point of Sale (POS) systems, inventory databases, and Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Operational Expertise: Demonstrated ability in budget management, staff scheduling, visual merchandising, and inventory control systems.
- Communication & Leadership: Fluent in English with exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; proven ability to manage, motivate, and mentor a diverse team.
- Work Eligibility & Age: Minimum 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications ("Bonus Points")
- Active participation in skiing, snowboarding, road cycling, or mountain biking.
- Direct working knowledge of ski/bike service shop operations, equipment tuning, fitting protocols, or coaching/instruction experience.
- Current residency in the Bow Valley area (Canmore, Banff, Exshaw, or surrounding communities).
