Position Type:CUPE Local 556Salary:$39.50 per hourEmployment Type:Term Part-TimeClosing date:August 4, 2022 – 3:00pmWe are seeking apart‑time term (minimum 30 hours per week, additional hours may be required) Communications and Engagement Specialistto join our Communications and Engagement Team as communications lead for the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project. This two‑year term role, ending in November 2024, will oversee communication and engagement about the $82 million construction project that will replace over 14,000 cubic metres of raw sewage daily and protect the community from environmental risks.ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with stakeholders to ensure open dialogue across jurisdictions.Develop and execute multi‑channel communications and engagement plans.Ensure corporate branding and messaging is clear and consistent, aligning initiatives with core services and strategic priorities.Serve as liaison for media requests, coordinate media responses, develop issue briefings, key messages, news releases and reports.Oversee content on the Comox Valley Regional District websites, monitor analytics, and propose improvements.Produce a variety of communication materials including news releases, videos, backgrounders, reports, newsletters, brochures, displays,



and signage.Liaise with stakeholders and contractors to provide timely coordination of information to the public.Ensure quality control for the project, including compliance with graphic standards for marketing initiatives and print/web content.Provide expertise, direction and guidance to staff within the project team and support the Manager with communications for other engineering projects as needed.QualificationsSelf‑directed, motivated and creative with a strong work ethic.Adept at disseminating information with accuracy, consistency, and thoroughness.Strong communicator with exceptional writing, facilitation and interpersonal skills.Ability to manage multiple demands and meet tight deadlines.Capability to adapt to change and develop optimal tools and timing for stakeholder communication.Skilled in public engagement and communications, with more than four years of experience developing and implementing communication programs for a diverse organization, preferably in local government.High school diploma and an additional program in communications, engagement, or a related discipline of 2–3 years.The Comox Valley Regional District is an equal opportunity employer.
