Design Team Lead (Web and Creative)

GrowME Marketing is a full service marketing agency in downtown Calgary. We started in the early 2010s with two people, a rented storage unit and zero clients. We are hiring a Design Team Lead to own design quality across everything we ship.

About the role

This is a player coach position, not a pure management job. You will spend roughly half your time leading and half your time designing. You will run a small distributed team that includes in-house designers here in Calgary, you will be the person accountable for whether the work is good.

You will report into leadership and work daily alongside our strategy, paid media, SEO and development teams.

What you will do

- Own the quality bar for all design output: websites, landing pages, brand work and paid ad creative
- Lead, mentor and review the work of a small design team, including remote contributors across time zones
- Stay hands-on with the highest impact projects, particularly new client websites and major campaign launches
- Plan design capacity across multiple concurrent client projects and keep delivery on schedule
- Present and defend creative work directly to clients, and translate their feedback into clear direction for the team
- Build the systems that let us move faster: design standards, component libraries, templates and reusable assets
- Drive adoption of AI tooling across the design team. AI is already built into our daily process rather than sitting to the side as an experiment, and we want a lead who pushes that further
- Partner with paid media on creative testing so design decisions are informed by campaign performance

What you bring

- 6+ years of professional design experience,



including 2+ years leading or mentoring other designers
- A portfolio showing both website work and campaign or advertising creative. We want to see live sites, not only concept shots
- Strong command of Figma, including components, auto layout and design systems
- Working familiarity with WordPress and Elementor. You do not need to build every page yourself, but you need to review that work credibly and know what is achievable
- Real experience producing creative for paid social and display campaigns
- Comfort presenting to clients and giving direct, useful feedback to designers
- Practical experience with AI design and development tools in a production workflow
- Legally entitled to work in Canada

Nice to have

- Agency background and comfort juggling multiple clients at once
- Motion design: After Effects, Lottie or Rive
- Understanding of how design decisions affect SEO and page performance
- Experience managing remote or contract designers
