Seeking a motivated and professional Independent Medical Examination (IME) Assistant to work alongside an orthopaedic surgeon in our Calgary clinic. This is a unique clinical position well suited to a kinesiologist, kinesiology graduate, radiology tech with pain management experience, or individual with a strong background in musculoskeletal health and orthopaedics. The successful candidate will assist with patient interviews, medical chart reviews, orthopaedic examinations, and preparation of comprehensive Medical Examination reports.

The position requires excellent interpersonal skills, strong written communication, attention to detail, and a working understanding of common traumatic musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions.

Responsibilities include

- Interviewing patients and obtaining a clear, organized history of the accident, injuries, symptoms, treatment, functional limitations, and recovery.
- Assisting the orthopaedic surgeon during Independent Medical Examinations.
- Reviewing medical records, clinical notes, imaging reports, treatment plans, and other medical documentation.
- Summarizing relevant medical history and treatment chronologically and accurately.
- Assisting with the preparation, editing, and completion of Independent Medical Examination reports.
- Developing familiarity with common traumatic orthopaedic injuries, including cervical and lumbar spine injuries, shoulder injuries, knee injuries, sprains, strains, fractures, and other musculoskeletal conditions.
- Understanding commonly prescribed treatments, rehabilitation principles, expected recovery periods, prognosis, functional limitations, and return-to-work considerations.




- Ensuring reports are accurate, organized, professional, and consistent with the physician's clinical findings and opinions.
- Communicating professionally and compassionately with patients throughout the assessment process.
- Communicating effectively with physicians, administrative staff, and other members of the clinical team.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and handling sensitive medical information appropriately.
- Assisting with general clinical and administrative duties associated with the IME process.

Qualifications The ideal candidate will have:
- A degree or diploma in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Athletic Therapy, Rehabilitation, or a related health-science field.
- A strong understanding of human anatomy, biomechanics, and musculoskeletal conditions.
- Familiarity with common orthopaedic injuries and rehabilitation principles.
- Excellent written English, grammar, and documentation skills.
- Strong interviewing and interpersonal communication skills.
- The ability to communicate comfortably and professionally with patients from a wide variety of backgrounds.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- The ability to review large medical files and identify clinically relevant information.




- Strong computer and word-processing skills.
- The ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a clinical team.

Previous experience in kinesiology, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, orthopaedics, medical documentation, medical-legal assessments, or clinical report preparation is an asset but is not required for the right candidate.

Schedule

This is a part-time position consisting of approximately 13–15 working days per month. Clinic days are generally eight to nine hours, depending on the assessment schedule. The position is best suited to someone who prefers working several full clinical days per month rather than a traditional five-day workweek. The successful candidate should be comfortable interacting directly with patients, learning how orthopaedic injuries are assessed, reviewing medical records, and producing high-quality professional medical reports. This position provides significant exposure to orthopaedic assessment, traumatic injury, rehabilitation, prognosis, functional capacity, and medical-legal reporting and may be particularly valuable for someone pursuing a career in kinesiology, rehabilitation, medicine, physiotherapy, or another clinical health profession.

Pay: $25.00-$50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24.0 – 40.0 per week
