HV Logic Ltd. is an Alberta-based High Voltage Electrical Engineering company that specializes in digital equipment in the power industry. Skilled services include project consulting and management, substation electrical and relay settings design, automation logic, SCADA programming, network design and configuration, cyber security assessment and planning. HV Logic Ltd. has experience delivering results for a wide range of clients in the electric utilities, oil and gas, and renewables sectors in Alberta.
To support the growth of the company, HV Logic Ltd. is currently looking for an Intermediate P&C; Settings Engineer that is willing to learn or expand on specialized skills that are currently in high demand for the power industry. The successful candidate will be joining a small company with 30 years of industry experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop P&C; relay settings and coordination studies ranging from 4kV to 500kV, including the preparation of coordination study reports and relay configuration files for various clients including electrical utilities, renewable energy providers, generations, and industrial firms.
- Develop and review project P&C; scope of work, select protection schemes and relay models.
- Conduct protection simulation and coordination studies using software such as Aspen Oneliner, CAPE, ETAP, and CYME.
- Develop and review substation Protection and Control Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), logic diagrams, schematics, wiring drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Perform various protection related studies, such as Arc-flash studies, NERC PRC compliance studies.
- Travel to site and perform commissioning test as needed.
- Liaise and coordinate effectively with clients and other project team members, including electrical, substation, SCADA engineers, and commissioning personnel.
Qualifications & Experience
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
- Eligibility for registration as a Qualified Engineer in Alberta or another Canadian province.
- Relevant experience in P&C; settings, or Commissioning, or electrical design is highly regarded.
- Proficiency with modeling and simulation software such as Aspen Oneliner, CAPE, ETAP, or CYME is expected.
- A solid understanding of fundamental power system protection theories including overcurrent, distance, differential, and symmetrical component analysis.
- Excellent communication skills with fluency in English.
- Eagerness to embrace technologies and engage with technical literature, including research papers and relay instruction manuals.
- A clean background check is mandatory for the selected candidate.
Experience with any of the following would be considered an asset:
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with IEC 61850 systems.
- Knowledge of high-voltage equipment such as circuit breakers and power transformers.
- Capable of travelling to client work sites for the integration and commissioning of relay systems.
- Drafting in AutoCAD or Bentley Microstation.
- High voltage electrical experience for electric utilities, renewables, and oil and gas.
