The Role

Our client is seeking an Intermediate-to-Senior Software Engineer, Backend & Systems to help build reliable healthcare automation products and strengthen the engineering foundations supporting the company’s continued growth.

This is a hands-on role spanning backend development, system design, external integrations, cloud infrastructure, automated testing, observability, and production operations .

While the primary focus is expected to be at the intermediate level, our client is open to considering a senior candidate with the right experience and demonstrated impact. The level, scope, autonomy, and architectural responsibility will be determined based on the successful candidate’s technical capabilities, judgment, and experience owning production systems.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, build, test, deploy, and operate Python backend services, APIs, asynchronous workers, and distributed workflows
- Develop and maintain reliable integrations with EMRs and other third-party systems
- Improve the scalability, reliability, and repeatability of clinic onboarding, configuration, and deployment
- Operate and continuously improve cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes workloads, Terraform repositories, and CI/CD pipelines
- Strengthen automated testing across unit, integration, contract, regression, and end-to-end testing
- Improve logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, auditability, and incident diagnosis
- Investigate complex production issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions that prevent recurrence
- Design systems that are scalable, secure, reliable, maintainable, and cost-efficient




- Contribute to system architecture, technical planning, code reviews, documentation, and engineering standards
- Collaborate with AI engineers to integrate and reliably operate AI-enabled services
- Support and mentor other engineers based on experience and technical expertise
- Help establish engineering practices that enable the organization to scale its products and infrastructure effectively

Qualifications & Experience Our client is looking for a candidate with:

- Typically 4+ years of relevant software engineering experience , although demonstrated ownership, technical ability, and impact are more important than a specific number of years
- Strong production experience with Python and backend development
- Strong SQL and relational database experience, including data modelling, schema design, migrations, transactions, indexing, and performance optimization
- Experience designing APIs, third-party integrations, and asynchronous or distributed workflows
- Practical understanding of queues, retries, idempotency, reconciliation, and failure recovery
- Experience deploying and operating cloud-based, containerized production systems
- Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability, automated testing, and incident response
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and Terraform ; senior candidates should have hands-on production ownership of both
- Strong technical judgment across architecture, security, reliability, maintainability, and cost
- Ability and willingness to work across application development, infrastructure, and system design
- Strong ownership and communication skills, with the ability to make progress in an ambiguous and rapidly evolving environment
- Authorization to work in Canada

Level Expectations Intermediate An intermediate engineer will be expected to:

- Independently own well-defined services, features, and integrations




- Contribute meaningfully to system design and code reviews
- Deliver reliable, production-ready software with appropriate guidance
- Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to improving system reliability
- Collaborate effectively across engineering and product responsibilities
- Continue developing architectural judgment and the ability to take ownership of broader systems

Senior A senior engineer will be expected to:
- Independently own ambiguous, cross-cutting systems and initiatives
- Lead architecture and complex production engineering projects
- Have hands-on production ownership of Kubernetes and Terraform
- Make and communicate high-impact technical decisions
- Review significant architectural and system changes
- Identify and address systemic reliability, scalability, and performance issues
- Mentor other engineers and contribute to engineering standards and best practices
- Help shape the organization’s technical direction as the company and product portfolio grow

Nice-to-Have Experience Experience with any of the following would be considered a strong asset:

- Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- TypeScript, Next.js, or broader full-stack development
- Healthcare technology, EMR integration, or regulated software
- Building or operating AI-enabled systems
- Startup or scale-up environments
- Legacy-system migrations and modernization
- Multi-tenant SaaS architecture
- Workflow engines, usage metering, or billing infrastructure
- Cloud cost optimization and application performance optimization
