Job Overview:

Inventory Control & Receiving Associate The Inventory Control & Receiving Associate is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory throughout the retail lumber store, including both the inside store and outside yard. This position plays a key role in receiving incoming shipments, processing purchase orders, preparing online orders, organizing inventory, and ensuring products are accurately accounted for and readily available for customers and staff.

The successful candidate will be organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in a fast-paced retail lumber workplace.

Key ResponsibilitiesInventory Control

- Maintain accurate inventory levels for lumber, building materials, hardware, and other store products.
- Regularly inspect and verify inventory in both the inside retail area and outside lumber yard.
- Perform cycle counts and physical inventory counts as required.
- Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, shortages, overages, and damaged products.
- Ensure products are properly labeled, stored, organized, and easy to locate.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate low-stock or high-demand items to management.
- Ensure inventory movements,



transfers, returns, and adjustments are properly recorded.

Receiving Trucks & Deliveries
- Receive and unload incoming trucks and supplier deliveries safely and efficiently.
- Verify quantities, products, and condition of merchandise against packing slips and purchase orders.
- Identify shortages, overages, damaged materials, or incorrect shipments and report discrepancies.
- Enter and/or process received merchandise accurately in the inventory system.
- Ensure received products are properly tagged, stocked, and placed in the appropriate location.

Purchase Orders
- Receive and verify purchase orders as merchandise arrives.
- Match purchase orders, packing slips, and actual products received.
- Ensure all received quantities are accurately entered into the inventory system.
- Communicate discrepancies with suppliers, purchasing staff, and management.
- Assist with maintaining accurate records of incoming merchandise.

Online & Customer Orders
- Pick and prepare online orders accurately and efficiently.
- Verify products, quantities, and specifications before orders are released.
- Coordinate with store staff and customers regarding order availability.




- Stage completed orders in designated areas for pickup or delivery.
- Ensure special-order and online merchandise is properly identified and accounted for.
- Assist with resolving inventory issues that affect online or customer orders.

Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience in inventory control, receiving, warehouse, building materials, or retail is an asset.
- Robust attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organizational, time-management and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely lift and move building materials and merchandise.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn inventory and point-of-sale systems.
- Ability to read purchase orders, packing slips, product descriptions, and quantities.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and move lumber and building materials.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in hot, cold, wet, and changing weather conditions.
