Position Summary

Utilizing Best Practices Guidelines and Requirements, the Infection Prevention and Control Nurse (IPAC Nurse) will coordinate and conduct infection surveillance, education, administrative, and control measures to ensure that the transmission risks and complications of infections and infectious diseases are minimized to the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte clients, personnel, and visitors using all Community Wellbeing Services. They will be required to function in a wide array of responsibilities including, educator, consultant, improvement coordinator, and evaluator of practices. The IPAC Nurse will be knowledgeable with the infection hazards of all client care to be able to recommend and evaluate the effect of prevention strategies.

They will be fully knowledgeable with all existing and emerging Infection prevention and control measures to ensure the safety of clients and staff.

The IPAC Nurse will work within the Community Health Team to help support the Community Health Nurse with ongoing community needs, including program facilitation, community vaccinations, pandemic response, community workshops, and other task assigned by the Community Health Manager. They will work with MBQ committees in Health and Safety and Accreditation, including other areas recommended by the Director of Community Wellbeing. The Accreditation process within MBQ is not limited to Health departments but also includes consultation with Social Services departments including Mental Health, Family Health and Child Development,



and Family Services.

Reporting

The IPAC Nurse will work under the general direction of the CWC Director and report to the Community Health Manager in Infection Quality Management and Infection Prevention and Control. This position has no direct reports.

Summary of Main Responsibilities

 Infection Control, Outbreak Management, Policy Development, Team Support & Accreditation :

o Identify, create, and employ best practices for sanitation and infection control, prevent and control the spread by developing and implementing strategies to minimize the risk of transmission

 Outbreak Management:

o Assess and direct to control the spread of the infection, taking measures to minimize the outbreak and impact on patients, workers and the community

 Policy Development:

o Stay abreast of the latest research and recommendations in the field of Infection Prevention and Control creating policies that align with current best practices, and advocating for prevention control

 Team Support:

o Provide the Community Health Team, Community Health Manager, and the community, with assistance and support, including collaboration or direction, workplans or workshops

 Accreditation :

o Using the annual report from Accreditation review and the Accreditation portal, review areas of non-compliance and take corrective actions, including overseeing the teams assessment, completing surveys and assigning leads, leading meetings, and ensuring follow through

 Health and Safety:

o Promoting and following all MBQ Health and Safety policies and procedures

 All other duties as required

Requirements

 Completion of an Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in Nursing from an approved college or university

 Infection Control Certification from the Canadian Hospital Infection Control Association (CHICA) an asset (or willingness to complete within 6 months)

 Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing

 Minimum of 3-years’ experience in front-line Nursing in a leadership role

 Combination of training,



education and experience may be considered (at the discretion of the organization)

 Current first aid and CPR certificate

 Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (documentation will be required if successful applicant)

 Valid driver’s license, vehicle and clean drivers abstract

 Experience in a First Nations setting is an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 Knowledge of infection prevention and control regulations and guidelines

 Sterilization / decontamination, microbiology and infectious processes

 Environmental health services best practices

 Epidemiological principles, statistics, microbiology, and infectious diseases

 Policies, procedures, standards of practice, and guidelines (i.e. regional, provincial, and national)

 Accreditation Canada process, including standards, measures and domains

 First Nations health issues and programming

 Knowledge and respect for the community and the culture

 Demonstrate confidence in monitoring others to meet health and safety regulations and standards

 Must posses networking, research, and planning skills

 Effective oral and written communication skills, including facilitation/presentation skills

 Analytical and critical thinking

 Attention to detail and high level of accuracy

 Provide leadership to staff, clients, and others relating to infection prevention and control

 Proficiency in the use of various computer software packages to analyze statistics and write reports

 Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

 Self-manage, meet deadlines, and perform under stressful conditions

 Analyze lab results and understand statistical analysis

 Work flexible and extended hours as required for program delivery and travel when needed

Pay: $31.41-$44.45 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week

Ability to commute/relocate

- Deseronto, ON: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

Licence/Certification:
- Registered Nurse (RN) License (preferred)
