IT Systems Analyst (6 Month Contract)
Location: Victoria, BC

Position Summary The IT Systems Analyst is a collaborative role that works closely with colleagues in IT Services, organizational stakeholders, and third-party service providers.
The Systems
Analyst is responsible for the day-to-day support, monitoring, performance, and optimization of application platforms and data reporting environments.
The Systems Analyst researches and recommends industry best practices and actively contributes to the development and maintenance of standards, procedures, and processes related to production application and reporting services deployment, security, configuration, maintenance, and disaster recovery.
The role works collaboratively in planning, delivering, supporting, documenting, and continuously improving business application services and reporting capabilities.
Application Administration and Reporting
- Performs day-to-day operational monitoring and tuning activities to ensure application platforms are secure, cost-effective, and meet or exceed defined service availability and performance targets required to support academic and administrative business requirements.
- Provides Tier 3 support and data reporting consulting services for a subset of applications. Collaborates with IT Services colleagues and third-party service providers to diagnose and troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, and recommend and document actions, workarounds, known errors, and/or change requests.
- Documents and maintains application platform knowledge bases.
- Collaborates with IT Services colleagues and contributes to the development and maintenance of disaster recovery plans and enterprise architectural standards.
Continuous Improvement
- Reviews third-party application release notes and collaborates with stakeholders and IT Services colleagues to determine technical feasibility and risk levels. Works to prioritize, plan, and prepare for system patches and upgrades.
- Works closely with stakeholders, third-party service providers, and matrix teams to define, plan, design, document, and deliver high-quality, value-driven service improvements to the production environment while adhering to enterprise architecture standards and defined operational practices and procedures.
- Actively seeks opportunities for automation in application testing, deployment, availability monitoring, and capacity management processes to support seamless operations and future growth.
- Provides feedback and education regarding improvements to application platforms and reporting capabilities.
Monitoring Technology Initiatives
- Researches and evaluates new and existing application and reporting services, architectures, and tools to ensure technical solutions are fit for use within the environment.
- Undertakes regular reviews of application and data reporting environments to ensure alignment with enterprise architectural standards.
Innovation
- Keeps current with application roadmaps, security developments, and technology trends in the marketplace.
- Collaborates with IT Services colleagues to identify and evaluate new methods, trends, capabilities, and products for adoption that align with strategic objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Computer Science or a related field; a combination of education and experience will be considered.
- 2+ years of experience as an Application Administrator and/or Systems Analyst.
- Proficiency with endpoint management tools such as Microsoft SCCM, Microsoft Intune, Addigy, and virtualization technologies.
- Knowledge of Active Directory Group Policy Object (GPO) management, domains, and organizational units.
- Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Entra ID identity and access solutions.
- Demonstrated experience delivering, configuring, testing, and supporting third-party applications such as Microsoft Defender, WSUS, Office 365, Ninite Pro, and endpoint protection tools.
- Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation solutions.
- Familiarity with reporting architecture strategies and development.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
- Advanced problem-solving and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to communicate complex and technical information to others in plain language.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work effectively both as a member of a team and independently.
- Flexible and comfortable working in a fast-paced and changing environment with shifting priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting endpoint device hardware.
- Knowledge of ITIL/ITSM processes.
- Familiarity with Agile frameworks and project management methodologies.
- Knowledge of trends in higher education technologies and support.
