Our client, a leading organization in the energy sector, is seeking a Finance Controller to join their growing team in Oshawa, Ontario. This is a fully on-site position requiring attendance in the office five days per week.This is an exciting leadership opportunity for an experienced finance professional looking to make a strategic impact within a large, complex organization. Reporting directly to the Director, the successful candidate will lead a team of 5-10 finance professionals while partnering closely with senior stakeholders to drive financial performance, business planning, and operational excellence. and year‐end close activities.Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of financial records while maintaining strong internal controls and governance practices.Identify financial risks and opportunities, providing proactive recommendations to support business objectives.Partner with stakeholders across the organization to support business planning, investment decisions, and financial performance management.Prepare and analyse business cases, financial models, and strategic recommendations for leadership review.Act as the primary finance liaison between business units and corporate finance functions, including Tax, Planning, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Audit.Support the implementation of financial policies, processes, and systems that align with organisational goals and best practices.Present financial results, forecasts, and business insights to senior leaders and key stakeholders.QualificationsCPA designation (or internationally recognised equivalent) in good standing is required.Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.8‐10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience,
including leadership responsibilities.Demonstrated experience managing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost reporting, and variance analysis within a complex organisation.Strong understanding of internal controls, risk management, audit processes, and financial governance.Proven experience leading and developing high‐performing finance teams.Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to professionally challenge assumptions and influence decision‐making.Experience within utilities, energy, nuclear, mining, automotive, manufacturing, or other capital‐intensive industries is considered a strong asset.Strong business acumen with the ability to balance strategic thinking and hands‐on execution.Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.Must‐HavesCPA designation (or equivalent international designation).8‐10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience.Leadership experience managing teams and partnering with senior stakeholders.Nice‐to‐HavesExperience within utility, energy, nuclear, mining, automotive, or other capital‐intensive industries.Experience supporting large‐scale operational or project‐based environments.Exposure to complex forecasting, budgeting, and business case development processes.We believe diverse teams build stronger companies, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
